Sky Q Box

I wonder whether anyone can help.

I have a short time ago had my Sky Q box  replaced by Sky with a new Sky Q box as the older one was not working properly.

I notice I still have attached to the back of my Sky Q box a small black power supply box marked Sky. I am told this supplies the voltage to the Sky Q box.  I thought they were now intergrated into the Sky Q boxes or do some still have separate power supply box.

Hi @middlesex1993   Hardware version 32B1xx, are the only boxes that have the external power supply. Home -> Settings -> System info. The latest boxes are 32B2xx but even those are getting fairly old.

Mighty Quinn.

Thanks for that reply..
So why did Sky replace my faulty Sky  Q box with what they said was a new Sky Q box, when it appears to be an old model that needs a separate power supply box. Have they just replaced my Sky Q box with a second hand Sky Q box.

A lot of supplied boxes are refurbished.

Hi @middlesex1993   The 2TB boxes are in very short supply. The default box is now a 1TB 32B2xx. You would have to downgrade to 1TB if you want the latest box. Remember Sky own all the boxes, so it is their choice what they provide to you on loan. What was your old box?

Re: Sky Q Box

No idea

Are there many Sky Q boxes that have like mine a separate power supply box.

Is there a shortage of Sky Q boxes

Re: Sky Q Box

I am not technically minded.

i am getting very confused indeed.as regards the different Sky Q box models.

The Sky engineer who replaced my faulty Sky Q box said the replacement one was  a new Sky Q box.

Should I be concerned that my new Sky Q box has a separate black power supply box like the old one.

No. If it works it's fine.

As @oj01 says no need to be concerned .

There probably are no 'new' 2TB boxes as the 1TB box has been the standard for a while

As others have said customers are generally now getting refurbished boxes.

The 'V2' box (Hardware Version 32B1xxx) you have is not much older than the later 'V3' boxes.

Like many here, I have a 'V2' box & no problems

There is no need to worry yourself over the different boxes - the V2 & V3 boxes both provide UHD/HDR

Hi @middlesex1993   It is the only Sky Q box with an external power supply. Nothing to be concerned about. As you don't know what your previous box was it is impossible to say if it is better. If you had the original silver box then it is an upgrade and has HDR (only of interest if you have a UHD subscription). Likewise, the latest box (32B2xx) is exactly the same apart from BBC iPlayer has UHD. You should not be concerned as Sky will replace it again if you have problems. Millions of people have your box model and are very happy with it.

Re: Sky Q Box

Are we saying that all Sky Q V2 boxes have a separate black power supply box.

Do many Sky customers have these boxes.

Yes - correct that all V2 2TB boxes have a separate power supply & yes there are many customers with them

(there are no V2 1TB boxes)

Note V1, V2 & V3 are terms probably used here on the forums
