Sky Q Box

I have 2 4K TVs running from my Sky and the Sky Mini Box.  I have 4K on my main TV but the other 4K TV which runs from the Sky Mini Box will only display in HD quality.

 

This was my set up when I moved to my new house in 2021.  I was told that you cant run 4K from a mini box.

 

Has anything changed so I can now get 2 4K set ups.

 

Main reason for asking is that I am updating the 4KTV which only runs at HD.  If I cant get 4K quality not much point upgrading the TV.

Nothing has changed. The mini boxes are not UHD compatible and that's unlikely to change in view of the expected lifespan of Sky Q.

4K TV's upscale HD content - some better than others...

 

From a Sky perspective Q will never support 4K from mini's but if you want more than one then Stream does allow for it - assuming you have sufficient internet bandwidth.  (But Stream is a very different product to Q)

Thanks.  I dont really want to move to Stream.  I have good internet which is 1gig.

 

I have a 12 year old Sony 4K but its working fine so I think I will only upgrade if the TV does not work or if there is another way to get 4K which I  doubt.  I guess the only way around this is  a second subscription which I think is the only way around my problem.

It's only one TV subscription per address.

A modern television is likely to be 'better' in many ways, including outputting native UHD/HDR from on-board apps.  It's only the Mini box itself which will remain HD at best, and any current model television should upscale that to UHD extremely well.

Unless you're running extremely large TV's then upscaled HD is likely to be more than sufficient...

 

Of course, native UHD material isn't default - the majority is HD anyway...
