Re: Sky Q Apps pixelating
Having the same issue with all streaming apps on the old/original Sky Q 2TB box.
It'll a codec issue that all streaming apps use. Perhaps the older (slower?) boxes can't decide the stream efficiency enough?

Re: Sky Q Apps pixelating
I don't think so, before July 14th there wasn't an issue with the streaming quality and we had 4K streams on Netflix, prime and Apple TV+ before then

Re: Sky Q Apps pixelating
I've been a Sky donator for 25years and the service has been pretty good until now and even though they seemed to have fixed this issue for me with a replacement box still I'm not happy about the runnnig fees or Sky's response to this issue.
Given the probability that satelite TV could be defunct by 2030 I've been looking at various streaming optoins . I then noticed that Netflix on the (new)? SkyQ box is still a 2017 version whereas the latest version loadable on an Amazon FireStick is a 2024 version - is Sky restricted/resticting us to their version rather than allowing us to update to the lastest version?
What ever,. I'm now I'm considering changing our household to use the Amazon Firestick 4K Max for all 3 TVs as this will allow all of them to view a UHD TV channels at the same time (with the UltraHD+ addon) - sky mini boxes can't do UHD! This is a biggey for me and my family but time will tell.
I'll be sad to leave Sky but the diamond rewards are not worth it; never won a single freebi event and Vue cinemas are more than 20 miles from us and in the London ULEZ zone so not an valuable gift!
Streaming is the way that TV is going and that opens up a lot of competition to Sky!

Re: Sky Q Apps pixelating
I'm considering the same thing to be honest, the amount I pay for Sky and the amount of actual live broadcast TV I watch now, it's just not making sense.

2028.

Hence Glass and Stream.
Whether that suits you as a platform though is personal choice.
@JibbaJoy wrote:...is Sky restricted/resticting us to their version rather than allowing us to update to the lastest version?
Sky do not allow you to update any app on their platform.
I don't have any details personally about if you are right, but it wouldn't surprise me as I do know apps are often rolled back if there are issues, and this happens on most platforms while the app developers test further changes to restore stability.

That is what Stream is for from a Sky perspective.
The Amazon Firestick 4K Max will do the job with a NOW subscription though. Sky get your money either way.
Personally I am not a fan of the Firestick UX, but again, each to their own.

Re: Sky Q Apps pixelating
I posted here a while ago and have an update.
So, I was sent a new box and pixelation has stopped but unfortunately replaced with the screen just going black every so often when using apps. Feels like detection of the original pixelation problem is occurring and rather than correcting it, the software now just cuts the video momentarily.
Sigh.

I hadn't realised that Sky Stream offers Cloud recording (although only availabale for 30 days) it's something a firestick can't do.
I think I'll try switching to Stream and seeing if my VIP loyalty will get me any discounts or free extra pucks 😁

Re: Sky Q Apps pixelating
I have issue with sky q showing pixels / artifacts on screen on netflix and disney plus, now and then the screen looks buggy, pixels on it everywhere until maybe the scene changes and it goes back to normal, until it happens again some time later. our internet is 500mbps but netflix itself when you test it shows 150mbps; which still should be enough. i supposedly disabled wifi on the sky q box and connected an ethernet wire directly to the sky q box but same problem. i also notice netflix still shows 'wireless' under the network side bar option. I pay upwards of 90 euro a month and this is what i get.

Where do you see that netflix is a 2017 version and aside from that, what does it not do?
If firesticks can give you everything you need why are you even still debating it?

I was getting this tonight for the first time, on Amazon Prime, on Rings of Power. I used my TV version of the app and it was fine and that helped me fall asleep mid-episode properly. Jeez what a tedious show it is. So much potential.

In the Netflix app click left and select the <Get Help> option at the bottom then <Device>
A Firestick doesn't have cloud recording like Stream has so I'm seriously considering switching to Stream.
