As others have said following the latest upgrade the picture no longer stutters. Now it just goes completely back every 30 seconds or so. Still unwatchable and very frustrating!

Is that just on UHD channels?

Specifically with HDR on (10bit video output)

Watching the Grand Prix season opener and the UHD HDR feed stutters continuously.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I have a video of the issue but not sure how to upload.

Alright ok. Which probably confirms why they said it's not fixed in my email. When did you update? I've not had anything.

I think I have a working workaround !

Someone else posted on this community, and thank you to them, about HDMI issues with an older Panasonic TV dropping back from 10bit to 8bit and they suggested using one of these -

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B083JVPXDY

I also bought one of these -

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B092PP49P8

between the source and the TV, and at £30 and £5 I thought I would give it a go and IT WORKS.

I am currently watching Bad Boys: Ride or Die in UHD HDR, which was totally unwatchable before, and is playing perfectly, super bright picture, no stutter, perfect Dolby Atmos sound, I am delighted!!

Haven't tried any of the SKY Q apps yet, but have switched them all over to the TV anyway so that's a non issue.

I can now watch season 2 of The Last of Us that I had put off watching until it was fixed.

For information I am still on Firmware Version RS8138/2921 , and my TV still thinks it's upto date!  I have no idea if this workaround will fix the blanking issue that has been reported for the latest version of Firmware, but it's got to be worth a try.

I am not sure wether to update my case with Panasonic as it may take their focus off the real problem.

Re: Sky F1 UHD / HDR feed stutter

Oh I had one of them for my Xbox before this tv. I think my parents still have one.

I wouldn't update Panasonic. They need to fix it.

I had a work around which works but it's faffy.

I turned HDR on the HDMI options to off. Then changed the brightness to HLG. That way  you get the same brightness setup but it's just manual.

Re: Sky F1 UHD / HDR feed stutter

Yes HD is fine so only affects UHD via Sky Q. Netflix is fine in UHD

Re: Sky F1 UHD / HDR feed stutter

Ok so just a small update. I have now updated and yes the screen is going blank for UHD content. My work around of switching Dynamic HDR off and changing the brightness to HLG is fine.

I'll go back to Panasonic. I looked at @jezzer42  solution and whilst I do believe it will work. I want to hold out right now on Panasonic fixing it. I think it proves they are in the wrong as the problem has changed.

***Edit***

Just got off the phone to Panasonic. The chap said they've had a lot of complaints about this. It went to top management and is with the R&D team who are working on the fix.

I should have been a little less enthusiastic about the workaround! It has stopped the stuttering on UHD HDR content, however, the screen now blanks for about half a second, along with the audio, every now and again while watching normal content. It only does it about once an hour or so and hasn't done it while watching a UHD HDR movie on Sky. Very odd, and I am still on Firmware Version RS8138/2921.

So while it makes UHD HDR content watchable, normal TV from SKY Q now has this drop out. I seem to have swapped one issue for another.

Once my TV updates  I will see what happens then.

So my TV has now updated to RS8141/3009 and I can report that the workaround I mentioned in post #93 is a total waste of time on this firmware version. The dropouts now occur every couple of minutes on any and all content from my Sky Q box, totally unwatchable.

Sky Q now plugged directly back into TV and SDR content is fine  but UHD HDR content drops out as mentioned by others on this thread.

I will contact Panasonic UK in the morning and update my case.

Re: Sky F1 UHD / HDR feed stutter

So it seems that Panasonic UK has now given up with fixing the issues with software update and I was asked to contact repair centre. A while ago I had already motherboard replaced so not sure what they can do now ?

here is the message

Please note that the unit needs to be inspected and repaired by the service centre.
Please make sure to have the VAT invoice, since they will ask for it.
Since the unit is within warranty, then you may find the link for the warranty terms and conditions
If there is no fault found the inspection fees will apply, and if there was a physical damage the service will be chargeable.

As per my previous post I contacted Panasonic UK to ask when this issue was going to be fixed as the latest
firmware version had only made the problem worse.

I had an e-mail back, after my web chat, saying - "We are sorry for the inconvenience with your TV, we understand your concern and we will do our best to sort this out for you.

We appreciate your detailed reply, kindly note that your concern has been raised to our higher technical department and we will be updating you as soon as possible on this."

If the next firmware release doesn't fix the problem I am considering going back to the retailer and asking for them to sort this problem out under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Re: Sky F1 UHD / HDR feed stutter

Hi, Sorry to ask a naive question. Would it be possible to block the Panasonic, or 3rd party, ip address of where the software download is located, on my router? The reason I ask is that I have a new Z95A  sitting in a box, (due to building work taking place)., and although it was used briefly, I don't know if it received the update you have identified, either before purchase or after turning it on the first few times. My better half is a big F1 fan and I persuaded her to move to a bigger Panasonic model, and I would like not to receive too much grief from this. Thinking back, the installers checked for the latest updates during the installation, so there is probably not much I can do about it.

Thanks.

Martin

Re: Sky F1 UHD / HDR feed stutter

Well they emailed me a couple of weeks ago asking about the HDMI cable used.

Whilst it's annoying, my work around does work and it's exactly the same as just tuning into a UHD channel. Just a faff which shouldn't be there.

Getting a repair isn't the fix and I'd push back stating this has been done and it's software not hardware. It wasn't a problem before Christmas.

You have mentioned previously your workaround, but I am not sure what you mean by  "changing the brightness to HLG". Please could you explain as I would like to give it a go. Many thanks in advance.

Yeah sure thing. So any UHD program or channel I do this:

Settings cog on the Panasonic remote.
Down to Picture

Select Brightness

HDR Settings

EOTF Type

- Change from Auto to HLG

Then return to main settings.
HDMI Settings

HDR Setting

- Change from Dynamic to off.

Turning the dynamic HDR off stops the flickering or blank screen. However you

miss out on the colours. So changing the brightness to HLG reverts it back to how Sky

output it.

You just have to change it back when you're done otherwise it looks odd on normal channels.

That's how I get around it and works fine. Just a pain to do before each UHD HDR content

Did this answer not help you?
