SKY Q box freezing?

I have the following issue with the sky system:

All boxes are off. Go to switch on a sky minibox, the blue screen shows up saying it is having problems connecting to sky q box

Go to sky Q box - the hard drive is on overload and spinning, loud fan noises everything.

Reboot box. Fan noise stops. Go back to minibox, reboot that. All then is ok.

Other miniboxes also need rebooting before they work (blue screen).

Then all will be well for a while, days, weeks.. .

It got really frequent, each day - so complained and sky replace my sky q box, annoyingly lost all the movies i had downloaded and not available anymore.

Thought great all solved.

2 weeks later. Same thing has started again.

In between all this the only think that has changed is that I have changed my broadband supplier and network.

All boxes are hardwired (ethernet) but also have wifi connection if needed.

On main sky q box i tried to change the wifi network using an online guide. Entered all the details + pw. But it still shows the old wifi name, this was before the new sky q box was sent to me.

When i did get the new sky q box it still shows the old wifi name so presume that info is either stored on the viewing card?

Anyway.. despite main sky showing the network id for old wifi, the minibox still  connects to wifi (if i pull the ethernet cable out).

So not sure if that is linked but this repeated having to reboot is annoying now. Hardware swap hasnt avoided it so wifi change is only thing that is different.

Any ideas?

Interesting, I've just replaced my Sky Q box (2-3 weeks ago) & get the same issue, started a couple of days ago & now becoming regular, 2-3 times a day! Picture freezes & makes a horrible stuttering noise & fans going flat out?

Will persevere, but reckon I'll end up going back to Sky for another replacement.

Re: SKY Q box freezing?

Mine is doing it daily and now I've missed two football matches I had set to record because the box was doing its fan thing... and refused to record anything. Shambles.

Re: SKY Q box freezing?

I called Sky & had another box delivered, to be fair it arrived the next day. Unfortunately in my haste I returned the box with my viewing card 😠. Can't blame that on Sky, but waiting for new card!

Re: SKY Q box freezing?

Might do the same. If it happens for a third time then clearly a major problem...

Re: SKY Q box freezing?

So I'm not on third box.

this time thought I'd change a few things.

i was previously using mix of Ethernet and wifi.

now it's all Ethernet connected with wifi deactivated.

1 sky q 2tb

4 mini boxes

today was doing some cleaning, one minibox on all others on standby.  had music channel. On. Part way through mini box loses connection. Check main 2tb box and yes it's doing its fan take off mode.

reboot box, few mins later mini boxes reconnects and all is ok again.

so it can't be a hardware issue if it's happened on 3 different boxes now. And lost all my recordings in the process.

my box isn't over heating as its plenty of air around it and is in a north facing room so hardly any sun light.

what is going on?
