The Samsung s95d or f models are a good tv to have with SkyQ, I have the d model with excellent picture quality. The margins between them all in the recent hdtvtest shootout are small but the Samsung comes out slightly better in a bright room. and the best living room TV.

Really any choice is down to personal preferences.

@steveblue8

The Sony Bravia 8ii was recently crowned the best TV of 2025 after blind testing against the other main competitors. It's an excellent TV, very versatile, with stunning picture quality, far exceeding the technology in the decade old Sky Q hardware.

If I was in the market for a new TV and had the money that's the TV I would buy.

Re: New TV

Hello again

thanks for your reply, but i had not realised how much televisions are ?

would a cheaper mini led tv about £1000 still suffer from black crushing through sky q box ?

Thanks

It depends on how the source content is encoded in the first place. One of the reasons I stopped watching HBO content on Sky several years ago was because they used such a high level of compression that it caused horrendous posterisation and near-black flickering to occur on dark scenes. No amount of money spent on a TV could improve that.

Sky have improved their compression in recent years, particularly on UHD HDR content, but less compressed content from third party apps on a dedicated streaming device as opposed to a Q box, still tends to look better.

MiniLED TVs can produced excellent image quality. Look for one with as high a peak brightness as possible and as many local dimming zones as possible. Try and watch some dark content on one before committing to buy. Some can have aggressive dimming algorithms where the backlight fluctuations can be distracting or cause blooming around subtitles.

I personally much prefer OLED which, although less bright than mini-LED, produces an overall better image quality for me, especially as we don't watch much TV in daylight.
