I have a mini box that's not been used for some time that I now want to use. It starts and says, understandably, it needs a software update but fails and says use the manual update version. I have updated the software on.ysin SkyQ box (step 1) and according to the instructions the mini box should automatically update but it just keeps stopping at the follow manual update instructions screen. My remote has no effect on the box - how do I get the software updated or at least get to the Sky menu to check connections etc?

Conceivably if the box has missed several updates then it can't now apply the most recent one: these are intended to be cumulative and Minis are designed to be plugged in and able to talk to their main box all the time.
You may need to get it swapped out.

Hi @Gaius44
Mini will not automatically update the Software unless it is being sent out as update by Sky.
First try rebooting the mini.
To reboot press Standby on your mini remote (if the box responds to the remote), and then switch off and unplug at the mains.
Wait at least 30 secs and then Plug back in and switch your mini box back on at the mains.
Wait for the on screen instructions to disappear and the front led to turn Amber. Then wait for 30 secs before you press Home on your mini remote or if this is not working press the standby button on the front of the mini box (Amber led).
note: some features may take up to 5 minutes to return.
If you had to press the Standby button on the front of the Q box to switch it on and then
with the Q box on with green led try completly resetting your mini Bluetooth remote.
Press and hold 7 & 9 together on the remote until it’s led flashes four times.
Then make sure that you are pointing your remote at the mini box and press 1 & 3 together until the remote led flashes and follow onscreen instructions to re- pair.
Then next thing to do is a Software Update to make sure the mini box is on the latest Software.
In the mini Home menu go to Settings - System info - Highlght Software version and then select Setup and then select Update this box with latest Software.
However bear if mind that when you select Setup (in Setting - System info - Software version) the message received will always be update this box with the latest software even if the box is already on the latest version.
Updating when already on the latest version achieves nothing and the box software is not refreshed.
All Q boxes and minis should be on the same software version.
Software updates are released to boxes in batches and cannot be forced manually during batch release.
See following links for latest Software versions and how to update Q software

Hi, thanks for quick response, unfortunately the mini isn't responding to the remote. I tried the remote reset (ie holding the number buttons etc) but as the mini is stuck on the page that says follow the instructions at Sky.com/softwareupdate and won't let me go any further I can't actually interact with the box. I have a second box (IE SkyQ and one mini already connected) that's working fine but that's been continuously connected so is up to date. I just don't seem to be able to get past that page

Hi @Gaius44
Exactly what happens when you reboot the mini @Gaius44 ?

I get the Hello screen first, then it says software needs to be updated - thisay take up to 15 mins please do not switch off. Then after about 5 mins it says unable to update please go to sky.com/softwareupdate and follow the instructions.
Unfortunately the instructions seem to rely on being able to access the menu/settings which I can't do as it's stuck on the update failed page (black not blue if that's significant)

Hi @Gaius44
OK.
First just set the mini remote to Infrared mode.
This is done by Pressing and holding 7& 9 on the mini remote until it's led flashes 4 times.
Don't try the 1 & 3 at this stage.
The remote will then be in infrared mode only and will work any Q box but it will need pointing at the mini as it needs direct line of sight.
See if you can then get any response from the mini.

Thanks, I'm out atm but I'll give that a shot then I'm home in an hour or so and update.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to have helped. The remote is now working with both the main SkyQ box and the other mini so the 7/9 reset worked but does nothing to the problem one. The only light on the box is a red one, not amber too. I've attached a photo of the message that's displayed - not sure if that will help any more but at this stage anything is worth a go!

Thanks, I thought that might be the case. I was hoping there would be some way to get it to do a cumulative install but itay be too late for that.
Many thanks for all your help

Final update - got in touch with sky tech support and they confirmed it would need swapping out. Exchange arranged. Thanks again for all the help .
