Lag when switching channels

Hello Sky engineers,

Perhaps the below is not achievable , but I though I would propose in the hope futute software could improve the following.

for many years, I was wondering if Sky Q software could be enhanced to do the  following and elevate the user experience.

Enhancing the signal processing algorithms and firmware to reduce the time it takes for the box to “decide” (or lock onto) the incoming signal when you switch channels. This might involve streamlining error correction, demodulation, and decoding processes.

Second ownPredictive Caching:

The system could use predictive algorithms to pre-load or cache data from channels that are most likely to be selected next, thereby reducing the perceived delay when you actually switch.

At the moment, switching between Sky news and Channel 5 can take 4 seconds of black screen until the picture come up. Frustrating!!

Most people might not notice this but, it's quite evident in my case. I have 90% signal quality and 70% strength. My box is brand new 2TB V3 all black with no recoding.

Thanks

That is not normal behaviour.  Mine switches in less than a second.

The signal and quality bar is only one particular transponder - it doesn't mean the alignment is correct.  It could be an alignment issue or your hard disk having some issues.  Either way a firmware update won't fix your issue.

Nope. We are customers here. You aren't talking to Sky Customer Services let alone their engineers.

All unlikely to happen given the Sky Q boxes will only be around for a few years (5 years max).

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

Re: Lag when switching channels

Why would the box disappear in five years? It's well overdue an upgraded version with better hardware.

The propellant for the actual satellite will run out in due course. Comcast are prioritising streaming services and not satellite set ups.

Re: Lag when switching channels

Thanks for the suggestions.

So, my box is brand new and has no recording, the UI is very smooth, puase and play all in order as well as recording. The only issue is the time it takes for the channels to appear. I think the dish alignment might not be the issue here, as the picture is very stable. I read somewhere it's the hardware limitation to decode the signal quick enough. If you say your changes within split second then, I am lost here. I had the same issue with the Sky mini box until I cancelled it all together. I tried the best HDMI and still the same. Checked my Tv settings for best HDMI settings and still the same.

Re: Lag when switching channels

So far, I had two visits form Sky engineers and on both occasions, time spent combined is 5 minutes!!!

After plugging in their meter in the back of my Sky Q, they concluded that the signal is good and nothing can be done. They blamed the delay on Sky Q hardware being slow. There was no attempt to re-align the dish to 100% signal quality and strength. Basically these guys cannot wait to get back in their van and run for the hills!!! Shocking. I pay for for Sky care and been with them for 24 years and, this is by far the poorest service Inhave ever seen.
