I have been contacted by sky to get a new box and would like more info it says for free but is there more cost later down the line ,

Typically while the upgrade to Sky Q can be free if you are happy with the equipment offered, your viewing package is separate. The cost of that is subject to annual review.

If you have been contaced by Sky about switching from Sky+HD to Sky Q then you are under no obligation to do so. Sky+ HD equipment will continue to function for the foreseeable future.
You can switch to Sky Q if you wish but it has different functionality in some respects. It's best to phone Sky and speak to them regarding costs and any future change in costs.
