My satellite dish has been knocked during building work and now saying no satellite signal is there a way I can see if it is aligned before getting an engineer out?

Not unless you have the correct equipment and know what you're doing. Take a look at the troubleshooting on the appropriate section of this link.

You will need to contact Sky and arrange for an engineer to check the alignment of your dish. Be aware that if you’re on a communal dish system you’ll have to contact your landlord or building management company rather than Sky.
