hi @PastSellByDate

Does nothing happen when you press the Red button when on BBC1 ?

If it doesn;t work - try going directly to Channel 970 (although it is possible the channel number may be different for you - in which case try looking around that number in the TV Guide)

@PastSellByDate if pressing the red button on the remote doesn't work try rebooting your main Q box ie

putting your box into Standby

switch it off at the wall for 30 seconds then
switch it back on

then follow the on screen instructions

Wow, didn't know that the BBC Red Button actually featured on a channel number - every day's a school day! 😆

What's more being in the TV guide you can record from it and include in favourites

(useful for when Wimbledon, Olympics & similar are on etc.

edit : they also increase the number of channels during these - although in the past they were only SD so not sure how many they might use now they have gone to HD only)

Note that 'BBC Interactive Services' on Q are only delivered online, not over the satellite link, so if for some reason Q is running without a broadband connection then it won't be available from a 'Red Button' press (but some content should be on the channel number given above)

Re: How Do Access the BBC Red Button on Sly Q

Hello everyone,

The one confusing aspect regarding the Sky TV Guide (or the BBC's channel naming policy), because channel 970 is called 'BBC Red Button 1', which infers that there is at least one more, which there isn't (unless I'm dim & blind!!)

I wonder if it is because, as @nigea99 said, when there is a large sporting event with multiple events take place simultaneously such as the Olympics or Wimbledon, whether the BBC make additional Red Button channels available?

Does anyone know how many additional BBC Red Button channels there are during large events such as the aforementioned events?

Many thanks everyone!

hi @Mika+Hakkinen

The BBC used to expand to around 6  IIRC a few years ago (from either 2 to 3) during Olympics, Wimbledon etc  but since the availability/use of more internet based options within iPlayer this has  reduced & now I think they do  use only the one - although I may be wrong

Thus there mnaybe many more streams available but only the one via Satellite (or Freeview) channels

BTW @Mika+Hakkinen

Prior to sometime last year (I think but the switch off may have been earlier) there were BBC Red button 1, Red Button 2 & Red Button HD as channels but this did reduce to just the one HD

Re: How Do Access the BBC Red Button on Sly Q

Thanks for that @nigea99!

I guess it makes sense as it's probably cheaper for the BBC to transmit any temporary extra channels via the Internet as opposed to buying/renting several extra frequencies to broadcast on Sky.

The one shame about this (if the above is true!) is that we can't record anything (onto our Sky platforms) that isn't transmitted via a channel, but at least the BBC tend to leave some events available to stream at a later date.
