Free Sky Q box

Hi. I have received a letter stating I can get a free Sky Q box. I rang the number on the letter as it said to call to book installation. Was sent the text to start a chat. Can I please book to have a sky Q box installed free of charge. Thank you

@Philip19610112  You can't book anything thing through a public forum, also we are mainly customers here.

You'll ned to call Sky.  You can call on 150 from a Sky Talk Line or Sky Mobile.

If you haven't got a current Sky Mobile or Sky Talk this link should help:
(UK) https://www.sky.com/help/home Scroll down and click on ‘Need more help’ and it provides a 0333 number
(ROI) on the same link change the flag in the very bottom corner to the ROI flag to obtain an 0818 number.

Stay on the line and don’t hang up if prompted to. Apparently the quieter times to ring are just after 7am or about 9pm.

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

hi @Philip19610112

I think you may benefit from reading some notes I have compiiled for people thinking of switching:

SKY + to SKY Q

P.S. As an alternative to upgrading you may find looking for a 2nd hand SKY HD box on Ebay an  option - although they may be becomming less available due to the BBC  plans to move to HD only

@Philip19610112

Be careful though: the Sky definition of 'free' is usually either no installation fee or no increase in monthly subscription, but not both.

Re: Free Sky Q box

I've received the same letter today stating 'We're upgrading you to a Sky Q box at no extra cost.'

It tells me to call to book an installation but I dont want it as I'm happy with Sky+.

Are Sky going to insist on switching everyone to Sky Q ?

hi @FastEddie1

Not that I am aware of.but they are keen to move everyone accross to either Q or Stream

Is your box HD capable - as the BBC will be switching off the SD service in January

Quite possibly at some point: it's increasingly inefficient to continue to support Sky+ as a platform with Q on 80% plus of the satellite platform and Glass/Stream as well.

Re: Free Sky Q box

@nigea99 thanks, yes it's the HD version.

I love how simple it is to use plus I've got loads of recordings and series-links set up.

I guess all will move to Q at some point but I'd rather wait as long as possible.

At this point it's unclear if Sky/Comcast will insist on that, or are planning a transition of the entire satellite userbase to streaming anyway.  Sky currently has a contract with the Astra satellite owners to the end of 2027, which is also getting towards the end of the orbiting platforms expected lifespan.

Re: Free Sky Q box

The other reason is the SkyGo app that you have to use with Sky Q.

The Sky+ app (although no longer supported) is so much easier to use, plus you can also see the programmes for a week ahead and pick your viewing or those ones to record.

I don't know if this post was separate but merged into this thread because it is about the same subject.  But above you'll see that you have to call Sky to get this booked.
