You can watch the linear channel 412 as that is delivered via Satellite but all the other content uses the an app and is indeed delivered via the internet

@AndaemYou can watch the channel without internet access but you will need internet access to watch any of the content which is streamed(red button).

So without broadband you cannot choose from multiple games? Asking for elderly parents as they have no broadband and an old Sky box

That is correct.

On SKY HD the SKY Sports + is limited - the red button on the Sports + channel doesn't work on SKY HD as it does not use Satellite channels for the alternatives but instead the SKY SPorts app to stream the games - which of course SKY HD can't do.

Edit : BTW SKY HD customers with the full sport pack can watch the alternative games and a lot of other content via the SKY Sports app but can only do this on an iphone/ipad or android phone or tablet (not on a desktop PC or MAC) - which, of course,  is no use without a suitable internet  connection

As SKY Q also uses the app to stream the games via the internet then there is  no point without a suitable internet connection
