BBC text

Just upgraded to SkyQ and being unable to access bbc text I searched for answers to discover thst other customers have same problem and it appears thst on SkyQ this is now lost forever . If I had known beforehand I would never have made the change . I would suggest Sky announce this  generally to prevent other new customers from losing this valuable service

hi @Denis3

Sorry you have found this out the hard way but thank you for raising.

SKY does not list functions from the SKY HD system that have not been implemented on SKY Q but I have made some notes to try to help people consider the switch.

I admit I had forgotten about this service (that I, personally, never used)  but I have now added a mention at the end of my separate Switching notes discussion (unfortunately I can't add to the opening notes as we can't edit older posts)

Re: BBC text

Thankyou Nigel 99. I note that you have never used BBC text but older users (72) like myself found it an easy to access and quick way to get all news/ local news/ weather etc in a format which was there at touch of a button in written format

@Denis3 I am actually only a few years behind you but had a Prestel adapter ( The BT equivalent  rather than a Ceefax only) for my BBC micro many, many years ago !

(My reference to BBC Text was via SKY)

@Denis3

As I posted in that other thread, the current  'interactive service' from the BBC on Q is what the BBC wanted to roll-out on every platform back in early 2020 until they were forced to suspend and then halt this move as the result of significant protest and the threat of challenges under accessibility legislation: Q had one of the first implementations of the new version which replaced 'Red Button text' applied through a firmware update prior to 29th Jan 2020 and was never reverted, for reasons known only to Sky and the Beeb.

Re: BBC text

Thank you to those other customers who have revealed to me similar experiences about non availability of bbc text on sky Q.
The choice appears simple if you want to keep bbc text viz don't upgrade . I have downloaded the bbc app for news but it is not comparable to the service I have lost which have relied on for many years. Goodby old friend
