sky ireland mobile roaming

Give me a good reason not to pull the plug on this. I'm in the Netherlands for the weekend, and the coverage in the geleen area, very close to Belgium and Germany defies description, the network it is logging on to is NL KPN, and over huge chunks of the town, I've had NO coverage for data. What's really got up my nose is that Sky Ireland are using Vodafone as the underlying provider, and when I look at what's available here, Vodafone.nl is a service provider, but it won't let me use it. That just adds insult to injury, it's been a dire day for other reasons related to Brexit, and this was the final straw, I've never had such bad coverage issues in probably 30 years of mobile usage, and with some of the other talk issues we are having, Sky is looking more and more like a lost cause.

I will see what the story is on Monday when we get home, and if the other issues are not sorted, it will be end of story for us a 25 year customer, it's now so bad, there is NO way back other than to chop the whole sorry mess, and move to a different supplier.

I'm just not prepared to waste hours bouncing around Indian support that's worse than clueless any more, life is too short!

Shore, if twas easy we'd all be doin it!

Re: sky ireland mobile roaming

Hi!

My son is in Vienna / Sweden & Amsterday at different times of the month with work (just started 6 weeks ago)... he has been buying 1GB add ons as he needs them with 48Mobile (7.99 a month) - the add ons are €3 and stacking up.

Then I found the €15.99 per month Sky mobile sim only offer with a "Roam like you're home" tag line... ie you can use your data just like at home (unlimited)....

Is this what you are posting about... and should i take it this is NOT a good idea?

Was going to get him an E Sim tomorrow but might forget it now!!

Thanks in advance

Catherine

Re: sky ireland mobile roaming

Also.... The AD for it stated roam like home but when I go to the Sky website and try to find the small print and details of the package it doesn't seem to be clear or confirm that the roaming will be just like home.

I know you don't work for Sky but based on your post (which was actually a google search result when I was researching this), I am hoping you can advise!

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

Hi @Cat5000  i think the original OP was having trouble connecting to the local networks when roaming. If you can connect to the local networks (and in theory it should be easy enough) then the roam like at home covers Europe so he should be able to use his phone at no extra cost.

Re: sky ireland mobile roaming

@Irish-Steve are you still there and having the same issue?

What phone are you using, if you can drop a pic of your settings someone in this might know what to do.

Re: sky ireland mobile roaming

We're home again, and from what I can see on the community, Sky have fumbled the ball, and it seems that a number of European sites are not set up to correctly provision Sky Ireland subscribers, but if the user puts the UK codes into the APN record, it works as expected, but I've no way to prove this one way or another at the moment and the Sky web site is a disaster of monumental proportions, as much of the Ireland information is a direct clone of the UK pages, and the UK information will NOT work in Ireland, but at the moment, that's only one of a number of issues, I have a bigger fight at the moment relating to non performance of Sky talk with VOIP, they've made a monumental screw up, and effectively chopped our Sky talk to try putting it back in again, having patched some software, but the system is refusing to accept it, so they have left us with NO landline at the moment, and we're 3 weeks down the line with this issue, and we're tearing our hair out.
