Sending old phone back

I've put my phone to upgrade and send my old device back, at the time of doing the swap my phone was working fine I could use it, ring, message, screen was working fine however the next day the screen went completely black I can now bo longer use it or see anything so cant reset the phone or passwords. What do I do if I can't do this?
