I tried to put my old number on and every time I click save it comes up with the new number I also turned phone off couple of times and still not showing my old number

Or have you upgraded/ordered a new sim fro Sky with a different data plan?
We need a bit more info as to what the issue is.

I have just had a replacement sim card arrive, existing sky customer, want to keep my old number, but no options available to do so, put in new activation code, wouldn't accept it

you need to port the number you want to keep out to another payg provider then back again to the correct sky sim
