How to spot a scam. Information only.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreAs there's many posts on about whether a specific call claiming to be from sky is a scam or not I've decided to make a post on the subject.
A customer will receive a call claiming to be from Sky claiming they can save them X% (usually 30% or 40% but could be more). If agreed the scammers will ask for account details, genuine Sky customer service would only ask for the telephone password/memorable word, if asked for this it is recommended to give an incorrect word, if accepted then it is NOT Sky calling but a scammer - genuine Sky would say it is incorrect.
Do not give out account details or bank/credit card information.
Should a customer fall for this scam & give account details the scammer will log into your account, order expensive devices - usually iPhones - & most likely change the password to prevent cancellation of the order.
Once the devices are received they'll call back to say the devices were sent in error & to return them to an address which they supply or state they will send a courier to collect the device/s. Should a customer do this then they most likely will be liable for the full cost of the devices.
If this has happened contact Sky by dialling 150 from your Sky mobile or phone line or use the contact us option at the bottom of any Sky page.
Another scam is Sky assurance which states that your device insurance is due for renewal & that if you pay now they can offer a hefty discount for 2 years. This scam is intended to obtain bank or credit card information.
I don’t work for Sky.
If I have helped then please leave a like.
