Congrats!
in my situation, my new iPhone is from the states, so definitely eSIM needed.

Yep, mine is also from America so no such luck....but happy at least someone got it sorted! (No thanks to SKY)

Same, we bought our phones in the States. The person I spoke to was adamant that all phones have a physical sim slot no matter where you buy them from! I had to inform him that is not the case and he should have known this when he is working for a mobile company. Sky tech team were suppose to phone me on Friday at 3pm and I am still waiting, I have looked at other providers forums and they seem to have similar issues, so I don't have much hope in changing providers.

Oh really.....that is interesting that other providers seem to have the same issues. God help us all then....what do we do with our Amerian phones...throw them in the bin?!

I think Sky employees are given the same script, and EVERYTIME we call in, or are transferred to another dept, and after going through security yet again, I am asked whether I've checked for a physical slot. Sorry, I'm not an idiot and I don't as a habit, waste my time with Sky customer service without a real purpose.
I am now shopping for a new network provider bc my new phone won't work without an eSIM. Sky has raised their rates, so we can cancel within 30 days out of our existing contracts, but with these eSIM issues, I think that's an out too.. Sky have told me, in my particular case, they cannot the SIM to eSIM issue. Learning it's a wider problem, you may be in the same as me. I honestly hope that's not the case for you.
I think Sky needs to be transparent with this issue to their customers, and not bait us along for weeks, with bad customer service and lack of communication.
It's a pity bc Sky's prices are good. When things work, they are fine. It's when things break down, that's when customer service matters, and for me, it's just been a circle of pushing me about.

I got my skycode easyly and without any problems via email

Agreed....but it does concern me that we have people here saying that other providers have the same issues!

That's a good point. I'll be researching different providers and post my findings. Please share, if you find any interesting info.

Did you get a new replacement physical sim first? Then have it converted? Or did you convert your current sim?
12 Jan 2025 01:56 PM
IggyCl - I have tried that approach. Get new physical SIM and then try to convert. Still didn't work. Let me know if you find a provider that doesn't seem to have any probs with Esim and I will do the same. I was looking at Giffgaff cos it is cheap.

I am trying to convert a physical SIM to an eSIM - everything works (the email 4 digit PIN comes through in about 5-10 minutes) but each time I used the PIN provided, it says it is invalid!
Obviously not a major issue for me at the moment as the physical SIM still works but it does suggest that there are a few issues with the eSIM conversion process
Anyone experiencing the same issue?

Have you scanned the QR first and then put the 4 digit pin in?
12 Jan 2025 05:47 PM
Yes otherwise you won't be prompted for the 4 digit PIN!

I'm at that stage with Sky. They are sending me a new sim and then try to convert it.
I was with Giffgaff but switched to Sky bc I needed a better intl package for the states. Giffgaff were very good in my opinion, easy to choose plan, and they don't charge for use in EU, up to a reasonable amount (I think it's 5gb). They, like Sky, use O2.
12 Jan 2025 07:13 PM
Interesting - they dont charge for use in the EU. At the moment with SKY I pay £2 a day in the EU and we are there about 20-30 days a year on average......
If I was 100% confident that Giffgaf wouldn't have any eSIM problems then I would def be tempted to move to them - but if worries me that some are saying SKY uses O2 esim system as does Giffgaff.....last thing I want to do is move and be in the same boat!
