Can't port to an already active sim

I have an active sim card with Sky.  I wish to port in from another provider but the person at Sky is saying that you can not port a new number to an already active sim card.  Confused.  The reason i am asking is I have an exisitng sky sim and number,  I have changed deals and have to use a new sky sim (as yet not activated),  I am told you can not port one sky number to another so, you must port out your existing number to a different provider, then once its ported, you get a PAC from that provider and port back to Sky, now the tricky bit is, If I activate my new sim I am told by the Sky operative that I will NOT be able to then port in my old number back to Sky from the new provider if i have already activated the new deal Sim card.  I always thought you could port in any other number from any other provider to an already active Sim.  Am I missing something.  Thanks..

You have been given misleading information.

You need to activate the new SIM - you will either be able to give the PAC code during that process or, if not, apply it afterwards.

Re: Can't port to an already active sim

Hi,  Thanks for your response..

I also believe I have been given misleading info.  I wish to apply it afterwards rather than during new Sim activation.  I will activate the new Sky Sim which will give that Sim a new Sky number,  then I port out my existing Sky number to a 3rd party Sim,  once completed I then hope to obtain a PAC to port back my existing number to the new activated Sim,  The Sky operative is telling me that this is not possible once activation had taken place.  I feel sure this is the only correct way to keep an existing Sky number to use on a new Sky Sim.

Thanks again

Yes, unless Sky are prepared to apply a new offer to your existing SIM/number.

Re: Can't port to an already active sim

This is why I need to port in and out, It is not possible to have the new deal on an exsisting Sim/number apparently..

Its a new sim deal,  but I would like to keep my existing number.  So now I have 2 Sims on the one account sign in.  once I port out my existing number then that contract finishes and I ony have the one Sim with the new contract deal.  But as I said, the operative was adamant that I should not activate the new sim first or i won't be able to port back in my existing number from a 3rd party provider..

As you say,  I think I have been misled a little as I feel sure you can port in to an already activated sim..

I will update once I have gone through the process..

Thanks

@Rick72  It is possible but only at sky's discretion and they don't like doing it so the chances of getting someone who will are slim

Re: Can't port to an already active sim

So as someone with an exsisting sky sim who just took out a new sim deal what exactly do i need to do? I havent activated the new sim yet but it wont allow me to use the pac code of the old number when activating.

Do i need to activate it and then ring them? Im so confused

Hi @Nichola34  you can't port your number from your old sky sim to the new one. You can use your old sim and not activate the new one, keeping your old plan. To get your old number to the new sim you would first need to activate the new sim then use your PAC to port to another network on PAYG then port it back to the new sim.

@Nichola34

You can't use a Pac code to move a number from one Sky sim to another Sky sim so you have a few options.

You could either use the sim you have or if you want to transfer the number you have to the new sim then you would need to use a Pac code to transfer your current sim number to a PAYG network and then use another pac code you get from them to transfer it back to your new Sky sim.

You cannot use a PAC code within a network (it's to move providers)

If you activate a new SIM then it will be in addition to your current SIM and have a new number.

you have two options if you want to keep the number:

1. Ask Sky if they will apply the offer to your current SIM (expect them to say no)

2. Activate the new SIM.  Port the old number out of the network and then port it back to the new SIM.
