I have just hit the same issue and I'm trying to get through to support to resolve. I've been told the same thing about needing multiroom but that's not what I was told when agreeing the latest package I have.
If you believe you were wrongly informed then you can register a complaint here about this:
https://www.sky.com/help/complaints
Give them the date (and time) you were told this so if it was by a phone call they can listen what was said to you.

seems to be some confusion between sky go extra and multi room.

The website does seem quite clear:

How do I get it ?
You’ll need a Sky Multiscreen or Sky Glass/Sky Stream Whole Home subscription, or you can pay the monthly cost to use it (Sky+ and Sky Q customers only).
It can also be free via Sky VIP as a reward so it might be worth looking into this.

Perhaps I should have worded it more along the lines of, continuing changes to Sky technology, offers, along with terms and conditions have caused confusion over the years.
