Just to add my experience to those already here, we have 2 iMacs and 1 MacBook Pro, all intel based. In each case the previously working Sky Go app has loaded, updated to latest version and then simply refused to load. No suggested workarounds have any effect. Enabling SIP may well fix it but I am unable to do this due to using OCLP. This problem was undoubtedly introduced in the last update.

I've tried everything I can but no joy on my Mac also running 14.5, quite frustrating as about to go on holiday and when I need it the most it is not working!!

Obviously a major problem, followed all this then entered an SMS Chat with Sky expert on this to no avail.  She was actually unaware of the issue which seems strange since it is widespread. Does it work on any Apple Sonoma 14.5 Mac... is the problem limited to the Apple processor?  Lots of apps required rosetta etc when the new processors were introduced.

Preamble: MacOS 10.13.6 on mid-2015 MacBook Pro 15".

 

TL;DR: turn off networking prior to launching the old version of the app to prevent it downloading the broken new version. Then re-enable networking and use the old version as normal.

 

OK, so the actual error when launching the newly downloaded SkyGo app (v24.3.1-2) is this:

The actual *problem* is that the old version of the app (23.5.1) is compelling a download and attempted install of this newer version which then installs itself in /Users/<username>/Applications/SkyGo. When this launches (to move itself over the old version in /Applications prior to launching), it immediately crashes. It doesn't bother to create a CrashReporter log so I dug the error out of the system.log via Console.

 

The fix (well, the workaround) is to disable networking (ie turn off WiFi in my case) prior to launching the old version. The old version attempts to look for an upgrade, fails to do so (no network) and launches as normal. Then you can re-enable networking and hit the SkyGo "Home" icon at which point the old version of the app works as expected.

I've not found a link to the installer for the old one, sorry.

 

Little comfort for you, I know, but since the new one failed to launch after it ran its installer it never got as far as moving itself over my old copy so the old version was still safe in the top level of my /Applications folder.

 

If I'd have followed the advice hereabouts to trash everything and reinstall from scratch, I'd have had to dig through old TimeMachine and Carbon Copy Cloner backups looking for anything earlier than the new version.

I had no joy with this older client which just got stuck in the loop and wouldn't open with WiFi Off and also no joy with the newer client which just crashed.

 

I ended up restoring my Macbook Air M3 to Sonoma 14.5 and then when I installed Sky Go from this old link above it prompted me to install Rosetta and then Sky Go now works fine.

 

I've turned off OS Updates on my Macbook until Sky fix their App.

@FifiFlowertot - thanks for the link to the old installer. Googling for it turned up nothing! Now grabbed for archival locally.

 

Interesting data point with the old client not launching on your setup with WiFi off - an Apple Silicon wrinkle perhaps.

More than 2 months passed since starting this discussion and no solutions suitable for me neither Sky updates. I think that Sky is aware and doesn't care. Frustrating.

Annie, of course I don't have evidence but Sky was not able to solve such issue in more than two months. This is a fact. Why? I don't know.

Just adding another frustrated user. Tried the old client with/without wifi and uninstalls/installs before/after boot etc, etc. No joy. All of my other apps - music production, photo editing etc still working fine. Just this application not playing.

Yopu onlu have to floow this forum to know how long it has been I have contacted sky on 2 seprate occasions and yet still no reply and still no fix, absolute joke.
