All other devices work fine with the WiFi. Is this coincidence that since I switched to virgin broadband my sky device has stopped working as well?

Sky Glass and Sky Stream require a strong, stable and consistent WIFI connection and the devices are prone to crashing when there is any WiFi interference or small drop outs, as these devices need a permanent connection to Sky's servers to function correctly, unlike most wifi enabled devices.
Its why a number of customers get a better experience using ethernet cables when using standard routers provided by most ISPs.

as suggested above you may want to try using ethernet / powerline wire connection or speak to Virgin if you have dead WiFi zones as they offer a pod mesh for a monthly fee to improve your WiFi signal
