SKY Glass and Now TV move if I cancel SKy

Hi,

I’ve seen similar discussions here, but my situation is slightly different, so I thought I’d ask for advice.

I currently have Sky Glass and subscribe to Netflix, Sky Sports, and various other services. However, I’ve realized that I rarely watch Sky content other than Sky Sports. Essentially, I’m paying around £65 a month, but £30 of that feels like a “tax” for the interface and ecosystem.

I’ve noticed that with NOW TV, I could get Sky Sports for about half the price, which has me seriously considering making the switch. However, I have a few questions:

1.NOW TV Compatibility: I cannot see a NOW TV app on Sky Glass. Does this mean I’d need an external device like a Fire Stick, Apple TV, or something similar to access it?

2.Sky Glass Functionality: If I move away from Sky completely, does Sky Glass essentially become a “dumb TV,” losing its interface and app integrations?

Has anyone here gone through a similar transition and could share their experience? I’d appreciate any insights, especially about managing the switch and understanding the trade-offs.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Paul

You would need an additional streaming device attached to one of your Glass TV's HDMI ports in order to get the NOW TV app. A Firestick, Roku, Apple TV 4K box, or a Google TV Streamer would all give you that option. Once you have the NOW app you can subscribe to just Sky Sports or just Sky Cinema or just Sky Entertainment or any combination of them.

In terms of Glass functionality, as long as you keep your Sky ID active (which is free) then you can still use the apps on the TV. The Entertainment OS will still function and you can use iPlayer, ITVX, etc. as well as choose the HDMI inputs for using any other device you attach to the TV. The only thing you lose is access to the live channel streams and any Sky on demand content.
