Sky glass gen 2 poor sound

Hello

I have had sky glass 2, for a week, well 2, 2 actually because the first one had really bad sound issues.

the second one was ok at first but now it hisses a lot out of the top speakers, it's particularly notable on news channels,

is this normal, before I either give up and send back and revert to sky q, or buy a decent soundbar, which defeats the whole object of this tv.

also, if I did get a soundbar, would it be better. To adjust the output to pass through rather than auto?

thanks in advance

@FAZZ

You may have been unlucky and got another Glass TV with speaker issues I'm afraid. These TVs are mass-produced and build quality can vary sadly. If you are not happy then you should ask for another replacement until you get one that you feel is worth the price you are paying for it.

Alternatively, you can return it and buy a smart TV and a decent soundbar, of which there are many, from various manufacturers. You can then add a Sky Stream puck to the TV which will give you the same SkyOS that you get on Glass but with the added flexibility of a smart TV that can have additional apps downloaded to it. A good soundbar will give you a decent Dolby Atmos soundscape too, and being separate, if anything goes wrong, you're not having to get an entire TV and sound system replaced as you have to do with a Glass TV.

Having this issue too - my second set improved vs. the first, but its still there. I notice it on about 20% of shows (news, some kids shows, quiz shows), but plenty where it seems OK (most dramas, movies and nature shows); due to this inconsistency it feels like it can't be hardware-related btu more likely processing or software related? Or is this just normal for Glass?

I end up keeping it on Music mode, which deactivates the top firing speakers, and mostly removes the problem (some hiss still in lower speakers); but this means i cant make the most of the Atmos feature.

Can anyone with Gen 2 who would describe their sound is perfect put on a news broadcast, go close up close to the top firing speakers, and check if there is any distortion, sharpness or hiss? or would you say it was crystal clear quality?

Further to @BenJoBanjo comment, if you are not wedded to staying with Glass. Panasonic do a 65" OLED for £799 and you could get a soundbar too within a similar budget to Glass.

Sky Stream is good, but I am going to ditch it for Now  TV when my contract ends in November.

It is good to know that as consumers we have choices, particularly if Glass or whichever, delivers poor service and/or value.

Sky Stream
1000/115 FTTP (Aquiss) to Zyxel DX3301
3 x Asus XT9s + 2 x RT-AC58U V3 for WiFi (AP mode)

C430 Samsung soundbar with subwoofer
6 other streaming TVs
43+ network connected devices

Re: Sky glass gen 2 poor sound

Well it's going back, decided to get stream, without any increase in monthly costs.

decided to get a Samsung Oled, got a decent discount on a 2024 model, and splashed out on the Sonos arc, again got a decent deal, and cost me only £100 more than the sky glass 55", better sound better picture,

thanks for your info and reply's

@FAZZ "... got a decent discount on a 2024..."

I did the same in 2024 by purchasing a 2023 OLED model direct from Samsung with a free soundbar.

Enjoy 😊

Coming from Q, Stream took a bit of getting used to, but I am happy with it and the picture quality and sound.

Having said this I will leave Stream for Now (which is cheaper), and Ultra boost means Now can be watched on 4 TVs at the same time.

I also love that Now presents all it offers online, no phone calls to/from a member of the retention team blah blah blah 😉
