My nephew is moving into a house with some of his uni mates, they have no TV so I was going to buy one for him but thinking about it I might give him the Glass and buy myself a decent OLED for the bedroom.
Between them they have PlayStation 5, Xbox etc. loaded with TV apps and whatever.
I've explained Glass is not a gamers TV but it's better than what they have currently. Some old LED.
So my question, if I just unplug the tv set it up on their WiFi and connect their PlayStation is that it happy students or is there more involved?

Oh! I don't want Sky on it at all so just a dump monitor.
My understanding was without subscription you can attach a firestick etc. so isn't a connection of PlayStation via hdmi the same?

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreIf you completely factory reset (as advised by Sky if you are giving / selling) then no apps will be available and only the HDMI inputs will be available (no DTT)
Thanks,
Tim

This should help:

Sky Glass without a Sky Ultimate TV subscription will work like a normal TV.
Once it's activated, you’ll be able to:
So you can just use it as a big dumb monitor.

I'm sure it just becomes a dumb monitor and can be used with bolt ons otherwise anyone closing their Sky Glass subscription are left with a scrap TV 🤔

"If you don’t activate your Sky Glass TV, you’ll only be able to connect your other devices. Access to TV apps like Netflix won't be available."

I believed that to be the case just wanted to be 100% sure. I knew it just became a dumb monitor but wasn't certain if any complications in setting up HDMI connected kit.
That seems a goer then, I'll factory reset and take it to him this weekend.
Thanks.

Remind them that live consumption of any channel through an app (or any iPlayer use at all) makes the property licenceable. Then enjoy the confused look on their faces as they struggle to comprehend what a 'live channel' is ; )

It's a house run by the University, block of flats I should say. They've all got TV's part of the furnishings like a Travelodge just a 32". TV licensing is all through the rents etc not really sure but his parents have sorted that. I'm just giving him the TV something a bit bigger for their gaming and its getting used not collecting dust.

Probably ok for licencing then: I'd be more concerned about an administrator killing Glass service access (not that it will be an issue here). Anecdotally, uni network admins are spotting a whole lot of Glass/Stream pucks popping up, having presumably strayed from the subscription address.

Yes all sky access can be killed I'm going to reset it remove wholehome subscription. Or whatever it's called so it will be dumb monitor.
I just want to see it being used as I no longer need it.
Students it'll be trashed by next year anyway 🙄

Interesting to hear you say that I would of assumed PS5s/Xbox's used for Sky as they fall under Sky GO I believe but interesting to know Pucks are being used.
