@Dannyboy157 please unmark @MarkGoldsmith post as the answer. Because it is not. Let's help others who might have the same question and keep things factual.

@MarkGoldsmith  Simply not true. The BBC would love everyone to believe this is the case, but the law is quite clear on the matter: it is the act of watching or recording live television programmes or using BBC iPlayer that requires a TV Licence - it is not required for simply having receiving equipment. It is its use for the purpose of live TV viewing that does.

That is the main reason why the TV License is under review😉

The "I never watch any live TV not even on YouTube" claim is easy to make ... but for how many is it absoluely true ... 1 sec of live TV in a year means you watched live TV and must have a TV license😉

Re: Do i need a tv license.

So, if I watch Sky sports live ( which I have with sky broadband service) - do I still need TV licence.

Though I'm watching live but not through smart TV app but its through the sky stream.

Hope my query makes sense?

@CKiran710

UK

Yes you need a TV License when watching Sky Sports live broadcast regardless if you using Sky Stream

UK

You need a TV license if you watch  any live broadcast.

It applies to all channels that are a live broadcast regardless what device you using or what country the tv channel is based.

Republic of Ireland  is even more strict.

You need a TV license if you have Sky Glass or Sky Stream even if you don't watch any live broadcast as both devices are capable of receiving a live broadcast from EPG

Both devices also have an aerial input

Sky Glass has an aerial input and works when no internet connection active so a TV licence is still required even if you dont use the TV

You also still need a TV licence even if a TV is broken as it can be repaired.

Sky Stream even if you are connecting to a monitor as it has an aerial input you still need a TV Licence even though the aerial connection it's not active at the moment it's possible sky may enable it a later stage in Ireland.
