If you follow these you should be able to open the remote.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Jimjob As you have found removing the back of the remote can be a problem the first couple of times as it it very stiff.
I find holding the remote at both ends with the buttons down and my thumbs on top and then applying pressure and pushing with one thumb and pulling with the other in the direction of the arrow is sufficient to remove the cover. Note the back only moves a few millimetres and can then be lifted off.

I tried the recommendation above but it still hasn't worked for me. I'm wondering how you can (as it advises) pull one side and push the other as there is nothing to grip to.
I've had 2 others try it and it won't budge.
Sky are going to send me a new remote, but I'm inclined to sack the whole thing off - I'm a day in to the cooling off period.
it should not be hard to get Sky set up, this is a design fault.

Try holding the underside of the remote in your hands. Place one thumb on the Sky logo at the top on the front of the remote. Place your other thumb under the 0 button at the bottom of the front of the remote. Then push your thumbs up towards the front of the remote, as if you were holding towards the TV and pushing your thumbs in the direction of the TV.
The upper side of the remote should click & slide forward a few millimeters. You can then seperate the battery cover from the body of the remote.
