Re: Scam callers pretending to be Sky don't log into [removed]

@KeKe0000 Thanks for your like! And I apologise for not acknowledging quicker. I have done a little bit of digging reference our common problem (scam callers), it seems that the culprit is our good old BT!! They sell off blocks of numbers to just about anybody, these are then routed by "the system" and bingo you have a call from Nottingham by a guy who says he is in London! perhaps we should start giving BT some grief. I may be wrong in this conclusion but I don't think so, but if I am then sorry BT!

I've had a few similar calls since and the last one I spent 10 minutes trying to sell the guy a Camel, whilst he tried over and over again to get me to download "the app" , he lost his rag and shouted " I am an Indian, not an Arab! But you are a scammer I replied and I have just wasted your time. So glad you got the hump! Then I put the phone down.........oh I wish he'd rung back!

Happy new year to everyone, (except the scammers) and let's give them hell!!

I loved your post Chris+Stilton it really made me laugh.

I totally agree with your opinion that BT sell off blocks of numbers, if it is true, they are allowing this fraud to happen and should shoulder some of the blame if people believe it's a genuine due to seeing a phone number... They won't, but morally they should, or they should stop selling these blocks of numbers without first ascertaining it's to a genuine business using them within the law.

@Alison- Thanks for your reply. I used to be with a certain company that gave VIRGIN'S a bad name, for my corn I received broadband at carrier pigeon speed, lot's of phone calls from Indian's who did'nt want to deal with my problem, only sell me new packages that in themselves did'nt perform because the speed kept fluctuating. I told them they were in breach of contract and they ignored me......big mistake, I cancelled my direct debit, they sent me threatening letters, I sent them two fingers and the rough end of a pineapple, the upshot of this is I won, cancelled with them and never the twain shall meet again!! it can be done! I'm with sky now (I bet you did'nt guess) and though not perfect, there are technical problems, and they are'nt cheap, but overall I receive around the speed I pay for and it's usually on.

The point is the only way to deal with company's like that and scammers is to bin them off, let your money do the talking. Regards Chris Stilton

Re: Scam callers pretending to be Sky don't log into [removed]

Just put the phone down on an Indian lady claiming to be from Sky technical department.

She said there was an error with the router/internet and asked me to check my broadband speed, which I didn't.

I asked her to provide me with the name of the account holder, but she couldnt.  I kept repeating the question and eventually she told me my name was "Idiot Woman".  I won't repeat what I called her before I slammed down the phone!!  I have the phone number this came from if you need to investigate further.

Very common, I'm afraid.

The caller's phone number wouldn't be of any use, as it will have been 'spoofed' (fabricated). If you have a Sky landline, the Sky Talk Shield can prevent you being bothered by nuisance callers like this..

I got a call this morning from a landline telling me that people from other countries were trying to hack into my account and she wanted to help me make my account secure, she then asked me to get my phone to which I clicked and told her I was busy and asked if could I call her back?  she then just hung up. She was very convincing.

Dear Sir,

I have been contacted by Dave Shah about getting compensation for my broadband but they know too many details about my account. Please can you let me know if you have anyone of that name. He says he is based in the 81 Newgate Street London

@Alyson+Brice

This is primarily a customer helps customer forum. You aren’t addressing Sky Customer Services here. Compensation for broadband (total loss) is automatic providing you reported it to Sky. See this link re auto compensation for when there is a total loss of Sky Broadband or Sky Talk. https://www.sky.com/help/articles/auto-compensation

If you have a total loss of service and it isn’t fixed after two full working days from when you first report the fault to Sky, you will become eligible for it and it’s applied 30 days after the fault has been repaired. It will come in the form of a credit appearing on your account.

The number will have been fabricated ('spoofed') by the spammer who called you. It just so happened that they created a number which already belonged to a customer. Sky don't make calls of this type.

Did you take an action in response to the call?

@Joe0473

Did the caller ask to to carry out any action when they rang such as go on a link and click something?

@Joe0473 as @Daniel0210 posted - did the caller ask you do to anything? Just checking that you haven't unwittingly exposed yourself to a scam.

Re: Scam callers pretending to be Sky don't log into [removed]

Hi it's March 2024 and this scam is still doing the rounds. It happened to me today. Convincing at first but when they suggest I download an app onto my phone, I challenged them, and said Im not about to download anything because they could be anyone and that I would just call Sky for confirmation and there was alot of calling me madame before they hung up. Be careful folks.!!!
