Out of interest, here is what the SMTP servers look like:
As you can see, using the Sky servers the setup look a bit different, and required a generated password, the Yahoo servers used OAuth2 to authenticate.

Re: cannot find the mail pass word without sky ID sign
Does your web browser automatically fill in the password for you, if so what browser do you use ?

Re: cannot find the mail pass word without sky ID sign
Hi Caesarome
This is a continuation of a previous request regarding forwarding. I finally found my Thunderbird logins did not have an smtp login. I cannot find how to add one so decided that creating a New account for Sky which included smtp and imap would solve it. This would allow me to create a more meaningful password. I could then delete the old pop.tools sky.com login . I have a password for the pop.tools.sky.com but it is a string of random letters. Any ideas ?
Regards

Does it look like it contains 16 characters ?
If not then as your email is the same then you should be able to use the same random letters for the new sky account you have set up in Thunderbird as all you are doing is to set the account up again in it.

Re: cannot find the mail pass word without sky ID sign
Thunderbird is OAuth complient so doesn't need a generated password.
Just add your Sky account, selecting it as Yahoo if asked, and using your usual sky password.
It's been awhile since I used Thunderbird, but it does setup the SMTP server correctly, it's just that it doesn't assume each account will use it's own SMTP server, and tries to use the same one for all accounts.
If you are still having trouble I will try setting up a couple of different emails accounts in a new copy of Thunderbird and see if I can direct you how to do it.
However, in the meantime try googling "how to use multiple SMTP servers in Thunderbird", I'm sure you will find something.

Re: cannot find the mail pass word without sky ID sign
Hi Ceasarome
Many thanks for your help. I set-up a new email for Sky using the smtp and imap options suggested during the Thunderbird add an email. I checked the stored passwords afterwards and there were entries for both the new ones with the previous 16 character password used in the pop male entry. However, when I try sending a mail I get a notification about my Sky Yahoo mail ID. As far as I know my Sky email address doesn't include or refer to Yahoo mail.
I have tried to change my Sky ID but there doesn't seem to be a way without a reference to the Yahoo bit. Not sure where to go now.
Regards Pete

Re: cannot find the mail pass word without sky ID sign
O.K. I have installed the latest Thunderbird, and I have to say it has changed quit a bit since I last used it (and not for the better)
It was a pig to setup.
I had 3 Microsoft accounts in it and I tried adding Sky accounts.
The first Sky account I added, I let it find the account settings which it did, but never gave me the choice of OAuth2 authentication so I had to use a generated password.
The second Sky account, I manually entered the server names imap.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.mail.yahoo.com. It then detected the other settings and I could select OAuth2 as the authentication and it then took me to a Yahoo page that asked for my credentials and allowed Thunderbird access.
It all then worked, here is a picture to prove it:
This is how the sever settings should look for Sky
It really was the worst experience of getting an email client to work, no wonder hardly anyone uses it.
My advice, find another client.
Edit: However it did setup the SMTP servers correctly.

Re: cannot find the mail pass word without sky ID sign
Hi Daniel and Jayac ( sorry about the spelling) I have attached the error messages with my email name blanked out. It would seem as Jayac has pointed out that I now must use the Yahoo Sky email account reference. I will copy Jayac,s details and try again. Many many thanks to all that have helped me try to sort out this problem., especially Jayac who has spent a great deal of timeon my behalf analizing Thunderbird's way of ' working'.
I'll mail a SUCCESS message to this post when I succeed .
Regards to all
