Newest version of email

I can only use basic email I cannot access the newest version

Not as such, but they may have some security type software that is affecting what code the two Chromium based browsers are running.

It definitely won't be a hardware fault.

It takes me to the new version page and it loads, but when I click on the email it just does not open.

Sorry if it sounds obvious, but you are clicking on an email, not the ad at the top of your Inbox? If it won't open an email, try logging out, closing the page and clearing your browser history, cookies, etc. Then try again.

Try disabling any add-ons you are using with your web browser or if you are not using any then try installing and using a different browser.

Odd as Chrome is working for me, are you running an add-ons via it, if so try closing them down.
