Re: xDSL Link down, WAN link down

Just got an email from Sky, it seems I can't get an engineer out to fix the fault but I can cancel my contract.

Hello IM35461,

We know you have had some issues with your broadband speed and we've been working hard to fix it.

Unfortunately, we've been unable to resolve it as quickly as we'd want to, which means you have a right to leave your Sky Broadband and Talk contracts without incurring early termination charges. You can also upgrade your broadband product without any upfront fees. This applies up until your broadband contract ends.

@IM35461 Have you any extension socket's etc in the home, or had OR do an internal wiring test, until they find the bad connection line wise, you will have the same issue with any ISP, are you on a digital line with your connection, ie landline if you have one, plugged into the back off the hub.

Re: xDSL Link down, WAN link down

Only the one MKV socket fed from the telephone poll across the road.

Re: xDSL Link down, WAN link down

@IM35461 OR master socket direct rj11 or via the adsl splitter filter?

Re: xDSL Link down, WAN link down

The Openreach MK4 goes directly to the sky router, no other cables.

Re: xDSL Link down, WAN link down

@IM35461 Have you ever had the front plate replaced by OR as a fault or a test, and what sky router do you have, black or white?

Edit:- looks like you may have the SR203 Black router as you posted stats up!

Re: xDSL Link down, WAN link down

The sky chap replaced the front cover this morning. I have the black SR203.

Openreach when they last fixed my line last year had their test equipment plugged into my master socket and also replaced it then.

Sky it seems can't book an Openreach as they basic test says no problem. Router system log only also seems to log 24hrs into the past making looking for wan down messages tricky.

Re: xDSL Link down, WAN link down

@IM35461 If you had a sky engineer, and he replaced the front plate, may have not had the ability to do a dslam reset on your line, if he did by sometime if you look at the service checker it will jump back up to the Line speed that it can do, then you can monitor what is going on, log does not do great time, just about 2 day's on mine not much more.

No reset, then 10 day's for the dsl to work it's magic and try to bring your line back up. Engineer should have told you that....

Re: xDSL Link down, WAN link down

@IM35461 Give it 24hrs to settle, and capture your router stat's and print your log files to a series off pdf's...

Re: xDSL Link down, WAN link down

The sky chap did a test from his tablet. No actual test equipment.

He just said I couldn't log another fault for ten days.

The noise margin values change all the time and can be different every time the router statistics page updates.

Other faults in the past have been DC leakage from another circuit and connection corrosion.

If it was completely dead I guess then I would get an Openreach engineer.

Re: xDSL Link down, WAN link down

@IM35461 Then he was not able to do a dslam reset, that was why he said 10 day's so the waiting time begins. Keeps you off there back!

Without knowing what has been done to your line, it's a catch 22, hence the e-mail....

Check your service checker, and DO NOT keep switching the hub off/on or continual reset's on it, if you wish for it to stabilise...

Exactly the kind of issues that are driving the national move away from antique copper and on to optical fibre circuits which are impervious to such things...

The other end of my road has new fibre to the premises using the existing poles but Openreach have no dates for my end fed from another cabinet.

@IM35461 They will get to it, if there is money to be made, just the waiting game!

Re: xDSL Link down, WAN link down

I should have taken up the offer to quit contract.

It has been fine for a few days and now back to its old tricks sometimes not even working for an hour.

I also now see the Sky Status checker is enert and useless indicating all is well even when the router is showing flasing or steady amber internet LED.

The latest log if it will let me publish it.

NO IT WILL NOT. IT HAS JUST GONE DOWN AGAIN!!!!!
