Hiya,
My in-laws, also Sky customers, are allergic to change. I've been trying to get them to upgrade their ADSL broadband (circa 2010) stuck at 5Mb/S almost as long as I've known them.
I'm hoping this will be the kicker, but when the copper core is switched off in 2025, will ADSL broadband stop working entirely or just the phone line? Or will customers still on ADSL be switched over?
Is there a way I can arrange for Sky to gently contact them to upgrade?
Cheers

It's just telephone. Their telephone service will be converted so that it plugs into the hub instead of the wall socket. Sky will likely contact them nearer the time to inform them of the change.

Find out moreThere's certainly theoretical availability of a 'single order' ADSL product (without PSTN service), although its current distribution is distinctly limited. I suspect most ISPs will try very hard to avoid using it though, and would prefer to offer subscribers significant incentives to migrate to FTTC or FTTP wherever this is possible geographically. ADSL, with its very limited maximum outbound speed, is a technology that really needs to go: if your relatives are only getting 5Mbs inbound then their upload will be a few hundred Kbps at best which starts getting marginal for usability, particularly when it's carrying VOIP too.
