Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

Well I'm having the same issues for another day....think another phone call will be on the cards

The worst part is I've switched from the previous provider and need to be compensated as they say they will pay towards the switch, so I'm reluctant to just cancel right now as I know there will be no chance of reeeeming that.

ita really annoying, there's clearly a problem with the hardware

Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

Thought I'd list some previously advised steps within the thread here, in case it helps someone later:

  • Turn hub off by pressing the WPS button for a solid 30 seconds. This forces a reboot and checks for latest software.

We performed this, but it didn't seem to solve our drop out issue. Within minutes of being off that phonecall, we still had regular absence of WiFi every few minutes.

Because our drop offs were really bad last night, we searched for answers and commented on this thread.

  • Also we manually rebooted hub for 2nd time, by pulling out power lead. It rebooted and we noticed hub seemed better all evening, no drop outs were noted.

When messaging with helpdesk today we were guided through some additional steps:

  • Logged into My Sky App:
  • Disabled Sky Shield under broadband product settings. Ours had been set to 13+ previously, now it is disabled.
  • Rebooted hub after this step (power off, 30 seconds)

Our "speed" showed 55mb/S today, so that was classed as a significant improvement.

We have 20 devices (IE door bells, couple cameras and two smart watches, tablets and games system, and laptops, etc all normal stuff. Not all of these are all on at once).

55mb/S was deemed acceptable by the advisor across 20 devices.

It doesn't seem that good to me for 900mb/s plan, but now we have to monitor for 24hrs and see how we do.

Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

I've checked my settings as suggested and they're already disabled. I don't know if that was done by the engineer when we had initial problems or if there has been a little assistance. Either way everything has worked flawlessly today. Hope that won't jinx it 😂

I have exactly the same issue happening, struggling to contact sky I work from home (online streamer) so the loss of income and living in a rural area isn't helping the matter

Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

Try the My Sky app. There's get help button which is supported to be 24/7 fast assistance. I'd missed that and all the phone numbers seem to direct you to the Community pages. Worth a try 👍

Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

A bit of an update, my replacement SkyMax Hub has been delivered and I set it up this morning.

Firstly the poweer cable has a USB C connector and not a small Jack Plug.

Connected the 3 regular ethernet cables then scanned the QR code on the card.  Phone's connected instantly..

Then did my little Octopus device, that to was working straight away, similarly my Hypervolt Charger. It was at this point I noticed they had all connected to the previous Sky Wifi address.

Went to my laptop, it connected immediately, to to old Wifi address, the on on the card wasn't showing up.

The old SkyMax Hub was obviously disconnected an dboxed up for return, it has now gone.

So essentially, everything is working apart from the fact I have 900mbps Broadband (or at least I'm paying for that).

However, having run several tests including  the SKY test, I'm only getting 94mbps download.

I'm off to work now, so will do another speed test tomoorow and if necessary, call Sky Technical Support.

Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

Absolutely useless. On my phone and laptop for over 2 hours this morning going around in viscious circles trying to speak to a human and failed. As a last resort I tried the cancel my broadband deal as inside 30 days. Even that failed but chatted online to 2 operatives. SKY have identified there are problens and are looking at it remotely. If they fail I will get an engineer visit. Once again watch this space. Progress is slow.

Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

It's hugely frustrating. I seem to be fortunate that my problem appears to solved. For the moment....

Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

Oh, it keeps getting worse.

Because I have a new broadband provider, new wifi address and password. My solar inverter and home battery set up have to be reconnected. It's a troublesome task at the best of times to do this.

So, I attempted to contact my batteries installer (who even though I own these batteries, they held Admin control and access rights - ridiculous). I could not get the app to work, as they have to reset my plant details. Guess what, they've gone into liquidation,  a company recommended to me by EDF.  This means any minor adjustment to battery settings, means I have to climb into the loft every time to change this.

The solar can wait as I can see my meter as that's by my consumer unit. I just can't see how much is being generated Live.

Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

I've got to the point where I only have tech when it's absolutely necessary. My final 15 years in business was a constant battle with poorly performing tech items. iPhone and ipad are as far as I go 😂

Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

Hub update.

I had to reboot it this morning, purely because of my Broadband speed issue.

So far so good. No dropping out and no trying to connect to my Solar or Battery WiFi.

Just did another speed test. Still 94mb/s.

How are you doing this speed test, is it via wifi or an ethernet test with a device plugged in to the hub directly? What speed to the hub does the MySky app say you're getting?

BTW, I see you got a new hub and then had to connect all wifi devices again. For future reference at least, keep a record of the existing SSID & password combination and change any new hub (from any ISP or manufacturer) to these details. All wifi devices should automatically connect.

Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

I am using Wifi from the hub. With both Sky tests and a Broadband speed checker. Using my laptop and mobile. On my mobile I am using Meteor which is what my installer uses.

The point is, I have screen caps if the original hubs performance of over 600mb/s.

Yeah my mistake only one card came and ut fidn't occur to me to take a photo. Oops.

@Me134

Should have said, I'm unable to connect iMac or iphone using Ethernet cable. Wish I could.
