Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

Big update:

New Skymax Hub delivered yesterday.

I set it up about an hour ago. It did the usual logs on and displays as the previous Wifi address and pasword using the QR code on the new card.

As to be expected all ethernet connected devices working well.

Stability, fine as I write this.

Download speed tests showing up as 578mbps, upload 775mbps. 😱

I presume this should get faster, and if neccessary, I can do the WPS button reset, which will then default to the new WiFi address on the card and new password.

So, I have progress. 🤞 Itstays like this or improves.

Is the firmware up to date? Mine is below.

How do I find out what firmware is on this box?

MySky app > Broadband > Devices > Sky Max Hub > Hub information

Although I have the Max Hub, without trolling back through the thread I can't remember what it is you have?

If I do the WPS reboot like I did with the other box, I guess the firmware will uodate.

Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

I've been having the exact same issues and it seems like other people are too. Maybe Sky's hardware isn't up to the job. We've had an executive complaint open for 6 months with no resolution, after much troubleshooting, max pods, and openreach visits so they said I need a Sky WiFi engineer to investigate but they don't have WiFi engineers in Northern Ireland which seems bizarre. Is that true? They just offered me to leave my contract but I shouldn't have to.

Thanks

It doesn't need the WPS button to update, it should do it overnight.

You have a HUB6 v1 hub, mine is a HUB6 v2 though so for that version, you may actually be on the latest firmware. One of the first things I did was disable the hubs wifi as I use a couple of Deco's for wifi access, so I've not been affected by any of this. I may re-enable it and connect an old mobile to it to see if my hub is affected as well.

It'll be interesting (or annoying for you) to see if it degrades again on the latest firmware.

Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

@Me134

How right you were.

Just about to provide an update and the wifi keeps dropping out.

I will attempt to write this.

The latest hub is running around 500mb/s.

I could not get some of my connected devices to work.

So did the WPS reset and managed to connect everything.

For the umpteenth time I got a call from Sky. This time I told them everything was working, got compensated for loss of service.

Now everytime I try to log on it picks up my solar inverter, incredibly weak wifi istead of the locked in Sky wifi. This is a joke.

Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

Well I spoke to someone, because my speed isn't reaching the required minimum they offered to terminate my contract or upgrade me free of charge

i said I want the issue sorting, they went off and said they will be back in touch

4 days later I get a text message

Hi, it's Sky. We've looked into your issue and are unable to find a Network fault. If you are still experiencing issues, go to https://www.sky.com/help/br

are they taking the **bleep** or are they just incompetent at this point in time really don't know

I will be phoning again tomorrow

again speed is less than 500 when I'm signed up to 900

Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

@ModernFugu

I am out of the country at the moment, but, I pretty much heard the same as you.

The only thing that went in my favour, was the fact my neighbour had City Fibre installed and kindly their engineer tested my line and the ONT. He got in touch with SKY and as I said before the final visit was also from a City Fibre engineer who again did the line checks and replaced the ONT.

Then I had the follow up call from a Sky person to which I foolishly said everything was fine, and since that call the wifi is dropping out again.

I can only suggest you keep pushing Sky and if possible get your broadband provider to confirm no line issues. Though no doubt that won't be easy.

Keep us updated.

Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

Brilliant, thanks for the advice koi

at this point I think you get more sense from people going through the same issue on here than you do with the SKY "experts"

Re: WiFi dropping every few minute

At this point I am going to dangerously tempt fate.

I have been out of the country for a couple of weeks, came back to find my Sky Q box, lit Red, as in Recording, but frozen, I had to power it down and power up again. All good after that.

However, that evening, I noticed the Wifi playing up again.  I did a Hub power off and on, and since then, All good.

Today, I needed to reposition the Sky Max Hub to the other side of a Unit it is by.  Success, but I had to replace the WAN Ethernet cable with a longer cable.  So far, so good.

The attached image is for today at least the icing on the cake.
