How is it obvious? A crossover is BT 2 to RJ11 4 plus BT 5 to RJ11 3. A straight through is BT 2 to RJ11 3 plus BT 5 to RJ11 4. It’s not obvious by looking at the pins. You still need to look at the colours, or put a wire map tester on it, or put a multi-meter on it.
On the other-hand, your suggestion about just plugging the original cable into a straight through extension lead is probably the best approach under the circumstances.

I've ordered this a straight through extension will this work with the original wire

If there are ONLY two pins present on the BT plug on 2 & 5, & ONLY two pins present on the RJ11 on 3 & 4, it's "obvious" how the cable is wired. So I said that IF the OP's Sky cable is the same, he will require a crossover.
