Very Slow Broadband speed

I have had speed issues with Sky Broadband for some time now and today decided enough was enough so went on to sky and ran all their automated checks an their system says all is ok.

Two other reliable broadband testers show my speed between 0 and 7 mbs.

 

Shame on you Sky.

 

An engineer has been booked for Friday but I now have little confidence in Sky and will look to change in the near future - if any issues after Fridays visit.

Important to understand that the Sky checker reports speed at the Hub: if your tests were made using a wireless device then it's local WiFi you're testing, not broadband speed.

 

Also, random 'at' sign user names are other subscribers, not Sky personnel.

Your response is a real clever clogs and deflective and does not help but in fact rubs salt in the wound.

Why are you so defensive of Sky, do you need to maintain your superuser status?

My wifi speed is abysmal and the speed testers show it is abysmal as I mentioned 0 to 7 mbs vs a promised high speed fibre promised by sky and paid for - check out Sky's reputation online https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/skybroadband.com

If their tester tests just at the hub then this is also useless information and likely designed to deflect users from the issue at hand which is the abysmal speeds.

@HannahLwat Oh give over, don't come onto a public forum and then whine when someone doesn't tell you what you want to hear, and is actually explaining to you why you might be having the issue. 

 

What @TimmyBGood says is perfectly correct, with a broadband contract, and this is any ISP, not just Sky, the speed delivered and stated is for a fixed line connection, ie the phone cable or fibre to the router. It is this speed that is what you pay for, which the Sky tester cross checks. Sky will have stated an absolute bare minimum speed of this in your contract, and if you are below this, then they will book an Openreach engineer to come and check your connection. The Sky checker would pick up if you are below this speed.

The only way of getting all of this speed reliably is connecting devices via Ethernet cables, Despite whatever response you have will no doubt have to this, believe it or not, it is physics that dictate this. WiFi on the other hand, is a constant variable. 

The so called "reliable testers" you are using are no such things, they are just apps or websites on a phone, via a WiFi  connection, and all they are measuring is the WiFi performance, not the actual broadband.

If you wish to go this way it is entirely up to you, minimal trust pilot reviews to millions of

sky customers not a good ratio.

As before, we are trying to help you AS THIS IS A CUSTOMER - CUSTOMER forum trying to help YOU!

It may also be that you will have knowledge before your engineer visit of the potential fault.

To check your broadband  speed , go to Netflix,go to help, open that section up, & go to check your  network it will  run a speed test and tell you  what connection speed you are  getting

WiFi is not broadband: your contract with Sky is for broadband, not WiFi, so using WiFi 'tests' doesn't help.  To verify or dispute the Hub results, a cabled connection is required.

 

As I've mentioned in these forums many times, my 500Mbs FTTP from BT 'tests' as over 400Mbs on an ethernet laptop and 40Mbs on my phone, using the same external website.

Rubbish - BT Broadband Speed tester is telling you how much bandwidth Sky is providing I did not mention Wifi - you made that bit up

For help, you will need to post the router stats and a throughput speed test over a wired connection to the router using something like fast.com or speedtest.net to establish an issue. And state your minimum guaranteed speed (MGS).

If a test from a cabled device shows download speed below the guaranteed minimum then report it to Sky.  Arguing here is pointless.
