Upgrading to fttp and need to split bands

Currently im on regular copper  getting 55mbps, looking to get fttp and im getting a call friday to discuss it, as I aslo have a bad connection the hub which is getting fixed in the next couple days first

So it dosent seem to be as easy as it is now for me to split the bands to 2.4ghz 5ghz, and that im going to need a 3rd party router, and either replacing the new sky hub completely(which i don't really want to do unless necessary) or using the 3rd party router as an acces point, and i cant turn the new hub into a modem only?(called bridging ?)and this router seems to be one i can use? The Asus RT-AX58u

I need the 2.4ghz for my smart devices but I also game, stream 4k videos etc, there are multiple pcs xboxs phones tablets in the  house

some advice/guidance would be  appreciated 👏

Re: Upgrading to fttp and need to split bands

@MrTea1100 Sorry but you raised the question that you wanted the 900Mb/s service, You can get that, Ethernet will get you all the way speed wise IF your PC/Laptops etc can do it, and wireless falls short a little on the SR203 which gives you all the splitting if you need it, Sky Max does not allow splitting in anyway Ethernet is the same as above, wireless will be slightly faster but not by much!

ISP connected is just plug and play, Asus you will have to work at get it all connected and tuned to how you want it all to be!

With either you may come across issue's as going up to wi-fi6 is different to what you have now!

AP's you need to work out what you want and need both connection and type!

@MrTea1100 Stick with the SR203 Sky Broadband Hub, works fine all the way up to the FF500 service.

The sky broadband hub can have its wifi seperated into 2 distinct ssids as below

----------------------------------------------------
Sky Stream , Sky Superfast, SR203 router, Tp link td w9970 + Asus RT AX58U (backup), Xbox Series X, google home mini, LG 55 inch uhd tv, with Dolbyvision, samsung a5 2017 and samsung s21

Re: Upgrading to fttp and need to split bands

@MrTea1100 Not for a Fibre upgrade, they will send you a small Ethernet cable to connect the hub to the new ONT installed, if you wish to go Sky Max so be it, but you will not be splitting any bands with it!

The link i posted caters for sky max .  Instead of seperating the wifi you temporarily disable 5ghz until you 2.4ghz iot is connected

Re: Upgrading to fttp and need to split bands

@MrTea1100 Ethernet will be fine, wireless not so much tops out about the 600Mb/s, 900Mb/s you really want to look at Asus then direct connected and forgetting about the landline completely!

Re: Upgrading to fttp and need to split bands

From what I've read its not a reliable work around, people have said there devices connected the to 2.4 will disconnect occasionally , is that true?

Re: Upgrading to fttp and need to split bands

@MrTea1100 With Sky Max hub you will have to tweak a few settings on it, single ssid operation, once you got the 2.4Ghz on they normally stick very well! You do have to use the app to do it all!

Re: Upgrading to fttp and need to split bands

When you say direct connect do you mean to replace the sky hub completely?

If i ever get issues that sky need to fix do i have to hook the sky hub back up?

Is making it an access point not worth it?

Is making it an access point not worth it? Why cripple the Asus, just by a cheap AP instead and keep the sky connected!

Re: Upgrading to fttp and need to split bands

So if got a cheap one for an ap,

Do I just connect the smart devices that need the 2.4 to the ap's 2.4

And the for everything else connect to the sky hub?(pc phones etc)

Sorry for all the questions, thanks for helping
