Re: Third party router with FTTP

Hi all,

I've been sitting here for the last 5 hours wrecking my brain on how to getting this to work.

I've moved and now have a SKY FTTP connection and my understanding is that I should be able to connect my ASUS AC5300 router directly to the ONT socket.

I've set WAN connection type to automatic IP, added my option 61 details and changed my IPv6 connection type to native.

I've tried with the latest Merlin Firmware as well as the official ASUS firmware.

Despite copying other peoples settings, I just can't get it to work.

HELP!

If there are 2 WAN ports for the Asus router then the information needs populating in both WAN interfaces for DHCP Option 61 details and DHCPv6 PD (native) for IPv6 in the router interface.

Re: Third party router with FTTP

Thanks for responding @mae-3

I'm not sure I understand, I copied the settings from other members in this forum that had successful connections.

These are my settings but the IPV6 LAN settings are not populating as they should.

The Asus router has dual WAN and even though you are only using 1 WAN port to connect to the internet, both WAN ports need the information for DHCP Option 61 and DHCPv6 PD fulling in for the Asus to connect successfully via the Dual WAN feature option we have found on the Sky community.

Re: Third party router with FTTP

@mae-3

All right, I turned on Dual WAN , set WAN as my primary, Ethernet LAN as secondary with LAN Port 1 and Dual WAN mode as Fail over and 'Allow failback' disabled.

On the WAN tab, I selected both profiles/ wan types and populated them with the option 61 information.

Am I correct in assuming that despite the DUAL WAN I only need to connect the ONT with the WAN? Because I still don't have a connection. However the internet light on the router is no longer red but simply completely off.

What am I missing?

Re: Third party router with FTTP

Used those option 61 details for years but changed to your suggestion -> no luck 😞

It looks okay what you have set up for DHCP Option 61, and the DHCPv6 PD. I'd suggest you do a factory reset of the router and populate the information again and see if that allows a connection?

@mae-3  @Neil+Stevens

Tried both of your suggestions and still says "Your ISP's DHCP does not function properly".

The router should be in Wireless router mode correct?

Re: Third party router with FTTP

i had mine in ap mode and wireless mode so shouldn't matter

my setup is ethernet from ONT into the wan port on the router and then the option 61 details i pasted above. ip6 was off when I first did mine as I didn't realise it would be off. You could try that and then enable afterwards?

Re: Third party router with FTTP

the other thing to try is power off the ONT, leave for 2 mins then back on

Re: Third party router with FTTP

@mae-3  @Neil+Stevens

Tried that too, at this stage I feel like giving up.

Maybe my RT-AC5300 is just not compatible and too old.

Shame considering the cost...
