Static IP for home broadband
Do sky accept request for Static IP for home broadband users or is it only for businesses? My contract ends this month and was considering signing a new one with Sky if I could get a Static IP instead of the MAP-T system they use now. If not, I believe iDNet and Zen offer static ip

Re: Static IP for home broadband
@RB9 No Domestic service customer can get a static IP from sky, business i think yes you can as part off the package. You can have sky turn the MAP-T to a 1:1 ratio so you alone only have that IP assigned to you!

Re: Static IP for home broadband
@RB9 like most ISPs Sky do not offer static IP4 addresses even if you are not on MAP-T so the assigned public IP4 address can and will change.
Only the white Sky hubs use MAP-T so use of a black hub or most third party router means you avoid that address sharing system. In practice very few domestic customers actually need a fixed address but if you are running a server ISPs like Zen are a better fit. However be warned the pool of IP4 addresses is exhausted and we should have shifted to IP6 which Sky unlike some isps fully support does away with a lot of this complexity.
Sky are quite open that as a domestic mass market isp they do not offer the services many enthuiasts want. Their business divsion operates independently and offer services for SMEs with improved support and features businesses need for a price.
