Slow wifi

I seem to be getting very slow wifi speeds. My router is located centrally in my flat. I was in touch shortly after switching to Sky and the suggestion was i purchase a wifi extender. I have done this and it seemed to help temporarily but now im encountering issues. Im having to use my 4G/5G on my phone a lot but that doesnt help for using tv streaming etc. It's particularly bad in the evening and first thing in the morning.

Checking the connection online it tells me theres no issues though.

Please can you help because at this rate i'll need to switch provider as i work at home and im currently having to go elsewhere to work.

@Chloegray

For starters give your hub a reboot as its been up for over a month.

Then try following this WiFi help guide to improve your coverage, to me it looks like your devices are favouring the 2.4ghz band which is not ideal in a congested location like a flat.

Re: Slow wifi

We had to have sky broadband to get SkyQ when it was released, worst thing we ever did.

Having had several providers the Sky router would constantly drop out connections and wifi speed was so slow in areas of our house.

Sky tested to router and all was fine and dropped my issue like a hot potato blaming our house and its construction and where router was positioned, I argued that many other manufacturers routers worked perfectly well to no avail.

As soon as I could I dumped sky broadband and went to BT, not a single problem since

Been offered some good deals from sky to add broadband and my answer is always no thank you, even though they assure me the issues are resolved this forum seems to say otherwise

Re: Slow wifi

Thanks. Will give it a go. Should I be rebooting g frequently? Haven't had to do that before with any others.

it's just two flats in the building. Ground floor and upper so not a huge amount like a block.

Re: Slow wifi

That's interesting @huggy09 I did the same when Sky Q was in its infancy - the appeal of a second box without the need for additional cables was too great - but have stuck with it since. Worked fine initially in a smaller property but trading up the space and adding more mini boxes kicked off the issues. Also had the engineer blaming the size and construction of the house (these old properties have thicker walls making it harder to get through!), but things have now got a whole lot worse with continual drop outs - internet radio stopping, baby monitor cameras freezing and freezing/dropping out of work calls. The last of which didn't happen during lockdown when everyone was dialing in!

With broadband charges about to rise yet again, you've inspired me to look at my options - drawback is they are thin on the ground in rural Somerset!

@Chloegray

I tend to recommend a reboot once per month as it gives the router a chance to clear its memory & scan for the best WiFi channel again.
