Slow wifi speed

Hi,

I recently changed provider to sky on the promise of faster speeds. I now get less than my previous provider.

Previous = 65 mb/s

Current = 15 mb/s

Promised = 250 mb/s

@Keerun

No provider promises 250Mbs over WiFi.

The first thing to try and establish is that there's the promised speed arriving at the Hub: do you have a device which connects over ethernet cable?

Re: Slow wifi speed

Promise is the wrong word, but you get the gist - the advertised speed was full fiber and I added sky max.

No I don't have an Ethernet/ device to connect direct? Would that help?

@Keerun

The advertised speed is over ethernet, not WiFi so yes using ethernet would likely allow you to achieve the full 250mbps.

Re: Slow wifi speed

So I'm just stuck with the speed I've got now I've swapped? Can sky do anything about it and is it worth chasing them?

@Keerun if you have bought Wifi Max Sky guarantee a minimum wifi speed of 25Mb/s in every room in the property or they will supply up to 3 extenders so it is worth talking to them, the first extender is sent out if requested over the phone. Further extenders require an engineer to have visited and surveyed your network..Getting your home checked out by a pro is a useful,perk in itself.

However the  white Wifi Max hub will deliver spedds up to 800Mb/s in the area near the hub so if you are not getting speeds of 250Mb/s it sounds like your hub is being compromised by its position. Any wifi hub nedds to be out in the open ideally on a surface above obstructions like radiators. As you have devices in rooms with multiple walls in the way or on differentvfloors speeds drop which is where extenders come in.
