Re: Slow 5Gigabit Internet?

I'm a little suspicious of the speeds I'm getting on my phone and PC via Wi-fi though. Surely, Sky released this 5Gbps fibre broadband, being able to give most devices at least more than 500mbps. I don't even have that many devices connected, and as far as I know, broadband splits the total speed across however many devices there are.

Say I got 10, with 5Gbps speed. Every device should get AT LEAST 500 Mbps. But it doesn't. So I'm a bit suspicious of this.

@IonPlinge Cat 6a is all you need for 10Gb/s Ethernet lan, wired all my son's up for him, and his gaming PC PS5 Pro and through a VM hub although he is 2Gb/s symetrical the system is running full tilt no issues! Bigest issue is the Internet server's for speed testing, and you will need something like the speedtest.net windows app on your PC, at least that does shove some good data down the pipe when testing! Good luck with it all, and will link below shortly when i go get the link for you!👍

As you raised wireless wifi speed's you really need to go read this, but it is hard reading!

www.wiisfi.com would download and store, they used to do a pdf years ok but stopped that 4 yrs back i think!

Re: Slow 5Gigabit Internet?

@IonPlinge You are really going to hate me for saying this but there is nothing but good intent, FF500 is the sweet spot, FF900 optomistic and 5GB/s is a real waste off money, but do try and tax it as hard as you can, multiple speed test's kicked off at the same time and see how well you can stretch it, and DO keep in mind your wifi7 Hub is NO where near the best on the market and keep off the pods if you are testing!

Re: Slow 5Gigabit Internet?

@JimM1 I don't hate you for the truth haha, I know 5Gbps is a waste of money, but I just want to be able to download games at supersonic speeds and have 0 latency, or as low as possible. My Steam download speed has halved since swapping from Vodafone 900Mbps. And I am a little distraught because, even with 2.5Gbps on my PC already, I don't reach anywhere near the speeds, I should.

Re: Slow 5Gigabit Internet?

@IonPlinge Fully understand, know exactly where you are, and pushing the envelope but as you say it's all shared, good day's and bad day's, peak's and slowdown's, as soon as the data leaves your ONT you have ZERO control over what/where/server and response, pretty sure a high speed server goes, 5Gb/s to you, then that will be right!

Re: Slow 5Gigabit Internet?

@JimM1 I'm just confused why even with 2.5Gbps I'm getting half of the speed I was getting with 900Mbps, and even with the vodafone hub. I was getting 100% of the internet with my ethernet. I was getting on average 110MB/s download. Now I'm getting 50-60MB/s.

Re: Slow 5Gigabit Internet?

@IonPlinge OK on the VM hub, the boy's i tested the Ethernet and the wireless wifi, His Ethernet runs up close to the 2Gb/s mark, wireless i think was around the 1.5Gb/s on his PC, the PS5 Pro was not anywhere near that but around the 800Mb/s mark but still acceptable and he was happy with those.

It takes real serious hardware to work realy well.

Would honestly if i was you, kill everything on the wireless side, and only see what the Ethernet was doing to start with, NO one has said much about the new sky Hub, last one was about how warm it got pushing data through it and that was not speed mentioned!

I only have a FF500 and wireless on this laptop no issues, Desktop is even better but it's Ethernet connected, and i combine both when backup transfering etc, External i care not about but internal is what I DO! Mobile Samsung is a bit up/down but it's a phone so who cares! DO not have one single wifi7 device so no need for anything at all that way!

Re: Slow 5Gigabit Internet?

@IonPlinge Once it leaves and goes out your Gigafast+ hub and onto i assume a XGSPON CityFibre ONT wan connection, hopefully the Hub and the ONT have synced at the 10Gb/s Ethernet speed on the wan/lan connection, and CF are giving you as much as they can through there side! Takes only one good test to know that it is capable off doing so!

Re: Slow 5Gigabit Internet?

If you are running the speedtest through firefox please try edge. For some reason firefox is rubbish on speedtest. I have this issue myself. In firefox i get 600 inedge or other browsers i get the full speed.

Re: Slow 5Gigabit Internet?

@ian2512 @IonPlinge Don't be doing any real speed test through a web browser, best to get an app downloaded as advised before especially when High speed testing!
