Re: Sky max pods

@Bails147 What you are trying to do then the new Sky Max pods will NOT be playing well, And it is the ONE just inside the home that is doing so, Either extend the Ethernet cable back to the main Sky Max hub, or if speed is not going to be a killer you could try to powerline between the Pod and the Hub, but for sure i would get at least a powerline with TWO ethernet ports as a minimum.

Re: Sky max pods

Sorry, if I've missed something.

Currently I've had to use an old router, set as an access point, at one end of the house, connected via CAT6 cable. It's giving me speeds over 800Mbs.

When I try to connect the Sky Max Pod to the same cable, it will not give me speeds anywhere near that!

The Sky engineer tried to sort it too.

He couldn't get it to work either.

He mentioned that this was a known issue and they'd release a firmware update in June. His advise was to keep doing what I'm currently doing till then...

Re: Sky max pods

@Masterjee Your scenario is not the same as the one for @Bails147 is trying to do and achieve from his older Sky system to the newer sky max control, the pods and the old sky Q mesh work completely different.

Re: Sky max pods

Hi,

Thank you for the replies.

It is not possible for me to extend the Ethernet cable all the way back to the hub as the location of the hub and fibre port does not allow this.

How would I use the powerline adapters with the pods? I have connected one to the hub and the other into the outbuilding which is approximately 20m away but there appears to be no connection.

I have also connected one of the sky max pods, to the other, using the run of Ethernet cable between my house and the outbuilding but that doesn't work either. Granted, the pod in the home is not connected to the router via Ethernet. Could that be the issue?

I just don't understand, before I upgraded to the max set up, The old (white) booster was in my kitchen, wirelessly connected to the router and then I hard wired using Ethernet from the booster to my sky Q mini box in the outbuilding and everything worked fine as well as having internet connection in th outbuilding. Sky told me I would be able to do the same with the new max set up but clearly I can't.

can I revert back to my old set up do you think? I still have the old equipment.

Re: Sky max pods

Hi MasterJee,

How are you using an old router as an access point please? I have an old Sky router. Can I do it with that?

will the router need to be connected to my

hub using Ethernet for it to work or can I use the pods?

cheers

Re: Sky max pods

@Bails147 Say what powerline adapter you are using, but 1st one at the hub, 2nd one at the kitchen booster pod, not out in the hut/shed! Ideally one at the Pod has TWO ethernet ports, the cable from the shed to one off those ports on the powerline, and the pod with a new link patch cable to the other port on the powerline.

Re: Sky max pods

Did you manage to resolve this?

I've just upgraded to gigafast 5 with the latest hub.

i had a sky minibox in the summerhouse and in external bedroom, both hard wired via Cat 6 cable, old set up gave me 80mb wifi from the mini boxes, this barely runs (convinced it's just connecting to the new hub in the house).

Re: Sky max pods

@Chris+Gilroy If the devices are both wired back to the sky Hub on Ethernet cable then are they both in a working condition as mini's? The wireless wi-fi hotspot on both your mini's is it on or off, on you should be seeing the wireless wi-fi ssid broadcast from the device!

Re: Sky max pods

Yes, I did manage to resolve the issue: by giving back the pods and replacing them with this.

MERCUSYS Halo H50G(3-pack)... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09C7JDYJ1?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

They work so much better than the pods.

I'm getting 800mbs all around the house.

Also, saving £4 pm too.

@Chris+Gilroy you will have a Hub7 as part of the Gigafast+ which is not fully compatable with Sky Q legacy wifi set up and while the Q mini will produce a hotspot it cannot be used to connect third party devices. You need to source a wifi access point and connect thst to the Ethernet feed from the hub. Technically Sky shouldn't supply a pod extender as these are only for use in your main home not out buildings and third party devices acces points are not expensive. Most APs  have a second Ethernet port to connect the Q mini for TV watching.

If the Q mini is connected by WiFi disable its wifi which can be done by navigating to Settings in its menu and entering 0,0,1 before select.which opens the engineer's menu.

Re: Sky max pods

Thanks Chrisee

i tried connecting the Ethernet cable into a sky pod in the summer house hoping that would work but it doesn't, guessing they must be both outputs rather than inputs.

My only concern with AP's is it will keep jumping between AP's (external garage converted to a bedroom and summer house are close by)

Ive got Cat 6 from the garage back to the hub, then routed through a switch and onto the summer house, both boxes on the old set up pumped out 80gb from the minibox with no issues but it sounds like from what you are saying that's not going to work on the new hub.

is there not a wifi extender on the market that will just accept an Ethernet cable as an input to save going down the road of AP's?

My Wiser home heating hub won't connect now either which is a different story, it worked fine on day 1, now it's not having it, even dropped to WPA2 and it's made no difference.

Re: Sky max pods

Thanks for the reply.

have you got Ethernet connection into the outbuilding as I have as I don't think an extender will pick it up regardless.

Re: Sky max pods

@Chris+Gilroy Unless your switch and the new Hub are not playing well together your wiring is all correct, have you tried with an Ethernet laptop or device like that connected to test if the switch is giving you anything on the cable connections!

Sometimes just powering the switch off for a couple mins and back on again kicks it all back into life!

The pods i believe are Ethernet connect a device and transmit over the wireless, they do not work as a wired backhaul connected device!

Re: Sky max pods

Yes Ethernet connection is fine, sky mini box and ps5 working no issues and Xbox, PC and minibox fine in garage. (Ethernet from hub to 5 port switch in garage which then connects to my sons PC, Xbox and minibox, then one output goes into summer house into another 5 port switch which feeds minibox and PS5, has been like this for a year and worked with no issues on previous hub (SR203)

The problem I am trying to overcome is previously the minibox would chuck out 80mb wifi, it sounds like on the new hub 7 that's not possible due to compatibility issues with Sky minibox.

Tried sky pod in summer house with Ethernet input hoping that would be a direct connection and give me good wifi but sadly not an input by the looks of it so guessing both are outputs.

Only option is looking like AP in summer house and garage (summer house and garage are close together so one good AP might cover both) but I want to avoid constantly jumping between AP's, ideally an extender which accepts an Ethernet input and gives the same SSID as the hub indoors would fix the issue.
