Sky WiFi signal strength

Afternoon all,

So I'm new to Sky having transferred from being a Virgin customer for 16 years.  I have our just signed up and had broadband installed only last week.  I am on Sky's Superfast 80 which I appreciate is a step down from what I was getting via Virgin 1gig spreeds.  But I do want to give Sky a fair go so I'm looking for some advice.

With Sky Max router installed I am struggling to get WiFi signal in areas of the house and in the garden (literally looses signal as soon as I step outside). The router is positioned behind my TV as this is the only place I can get it without wires showing all over the place.  Bearing in mind the old Virgin router was ok being inside a closed cupboard.

I spoke to Sky and they frustratingly said I'd need to sign up to Sky Wifi Max at £5 p/m and they could then guarantee wall to wall signal and provide a Sky Pod.  To be honest I think this is bit cheeky as when signing up I was told the router is one of the best on the market and not an inferior product.

So I'm just wondering can somebody advise on how to get a better signal around the house and hopefully garden.  I am looking at boosters, powerline, mesh systems or getting a better router but I'm just not clued up on what the best option is.

In relation to what other Sky products I have we have 2 of the Streaming pucks.

Thank you

1000Mbs to 80Mbs (at most) is rather a substantial step down.

Having a router behind a television set is distinctly non-optimal: that's a sandwich of alloy, glass and electronic circuitry which is broadcasting its own wireless (unless you've switched that off to use ethernet cable) and radiating EMF interference.  Cupboards typically don't do that.

The Max Hub has a higher specification than its predecessor, but realistically it's still loaned ISP hardware produced to a limited budget.  The business model linking the WiFi Max supplement and booster loan is well entrenched and I doubt Sky will budge on that.

Any current mesh system is likely to be better, but remember you're still only going to get FTTC speed (80Mbs reduced by copper line distance to the fibre cabinet) at best.

Re: Sky WiFi signal strength

Thanks for that I don't mind the fact there's a drop in speed as for some reason BT hasn't installed fibre in our area yet.  Just trying to figure how to get the signal to actually get around my property.  Any brands people could recommend would be great too
