Sky Wi-Fi

Hello,

I have gone live today with Sky's 500Mb Fibre. I was previously with BT with their 150Mb and their Smart Hub 2.

If I connect wired I get 456Mb, wireless it drops to 256Mb, upstairs in my office I get 34 to 46Mb on Sky, with BT I got 92 to 112Mb upstairs. I live in a modest 1960's 3 bed house, nothing massive, but the speed difference between the Sky Max Hub (a nice looking clean, white device) and BT's Smart Hub is huge. I'm less than 12 hours into being connected, and I can't live with this, it affects my work.

Does anyone know if I pay an extra £5 for the WiFi Max, will this help the Wi-Fi speeds upstairs, I presume it's a device which extends/amplifies the signal? I'm thinking of using the 14 day cooling off period and either trying EE or going back to BT, any advice would be welcome.

@DanFl  If you are paying the extra for Broadband Max then you will be able to get pod(s) to help with your Wi-Fi speed. Give Sky a call and request one or more.

Re: Sky Wi-Fi

Thank you, I'll request one, see how it helps the speed.

I'm surprised at the difference, I presume the anetnna's in the Sky hub aren't as powerful as the ones in the BT Smart Hub, especially as my BT one is 3 or 4 years old.

@DanFl  As they say you get what you pay for and BT has always had better kit than most of the ISP providers and the cost does reflect that in what you pay for their services.

@Highlinder @DanFl

I am pretty sure Sky won't provide a pod in this case because you claimed the lowest speed you get is 34mbps. Sky usually only provide pods if your speed is below 25mbps in a room.

Additionally adding pods can actually slow your speeds down if the signal strength is already good.
