Sky Max broadband without a phone line

So I have just received my router and the router set up online for broadband mentions I need to plug in the phone cable in to the router. I just moved in here and there is no phone cable. Do I have to have one? Does sky need to provide me with one? A bit lost so any help is appreciated

@Abz4 What package and what speed did you buy from sky, that may be the quickest and easiest way of working out what you have or need!

@Abz4 Then you are NOT connecting to a phone line in the slightest at that kind off speed, as FF Full Fibre connection is required.

You need to look at the section connecting the sky Hub from Port 4 Wan connection to an ONT using a supplied Ethernet cable! See the link below and look at each until you find connecting direct to a ONT Optical Network Terminal!

Thanks! I already connected to the ONT using the eth cable however the video you sent still mentions the phone line so I wasn't sure if this was a must or just for people who has phones already.

On another note, the openreach ONT is located in a cupboard with closed doors on the ground floor, and I will need the strongest connection on the third floor. Is there a way I can move the router to the third floor?  Thank you

@Abz4 That is NOT a problem, Ethernet cable the length you require and the method off getting it to where you need it to be!

Phone line connection for older ADSL/VDSL connections to the OR Master phone socket's and also seperate if you wish to connect and use a landline phone!

If you have a home phone the you will  plug it into the uk phone socket on the hub , for it to work, if you  don't  have a home phone then  don't worry

Hey, I have the same issue with not having a landline or any type on phone at the new apartment with cables. I'm sure it's not needed nowadays, however my sky hub is not working. Setup should be done, my ONT (into WAN port) and power plugs are all connected, but there is no internet, WiFi connection, no progress. In the Sky app none of the setup pages load, they are blank without loading or reset options.

@Gabriel27 What is the sky activation date if this is a new install for you?

The activation date is today, I've received the email about everything being set up and online this morning.

@Gabriel27 Even though you have that sky sometimes jumps the gun, and anytime up until midnight to-night is the time.

ONT all three lights on, Power and Pon solid Green, Lan flashes as to the hub, depending on the sky hub all 4 lights solid Green, that is linked below so you can see and check!

Thanks for that! So the OMT lights are a problem to begin with, LAN is not on at all. Power and PON are on constant, that's great. The hub has one constant red light on (it's the Max hub)

@Gabriel27 Then Lan connection from Port 4 back off the sky hub to the ONT Lan connection! You could have a look at the sky Max hub, not sure if there are any LED's at the connection port for the Ethernet cable, the older SR203 black on did, LHS green light connected at 1Gb/s, RHS flashes data back/forth between the ONT and the Hub!

Okay, so no lights on this fancy new hub at the back, but 4th port is connected to the ONT, but that has only one port. When the ONT is reset, the light for LAN is on, however as soon as PON is lit up, LAN turns off for good. I really don't have any second options for plugging anything in, every cable has just the one port. I can wait a few hours and leave this all alone, I'm just confused about what could be wrong

@Gabriel27 Try one off the other 3 ports, and see if the Lan lights up on the ONT, as soon as a cable is connected to the ONT the theory is a lan connection is established, Do you know if the ONT ever worked, or if the Sky Max has ever worked, take it you have nothing with an Ethernet port on it to try, ie a laptop and a spare cable!

Holding the WPS button on the sky Max hub for 30 seconds will factory reset that hub and apply it's default settings! RHS about 1 inch from the bottom!
