Sky Broadband Second Connection

Hi

I live with my parents, I have my own FTTP Broadband with EE, I game etc. They have FTTC with Sky. Will Sky allow them to upgrade to FTTP?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Hi @JimM1

When I try to check, the site says it's experiencing technical difficulties lol.

Thanks

Re: Sky Broadband Second Connection

@Barry+Mc+Kelvey Does get a little difficult to check especially when there is a dual feed as you are on the EE 1.6Gb/s delivered on the OR side also to the same home! The fact you have Fibre there should be no reason why not unless there is a restriction and the CBT is all sold out! You could try the BTW but dont think it will show up, but it's worth a shot! Try both ways telephone number for the home and the address checker options!

BT Broadband

Edit: Sky Fibre check is working fine, just did it against my postcode and address and see every option!

Re: Sky Broadband Second Connection

Hi @JimM1

I rechecked the Sky website, this is what I see. See attached screenshot.

When I checked the landline number via BTW this is what I get:

There is no data available. This may be because it is not a BT line or it is a number which has been moved to an IP Voice service. We advise using the address to check availability instead.

When I check the address, this is what I see. See attached screenshot.

Thanks

@Barry+Mc+Kelvey Will take a look when your posted pictures get checked and cleared for general viewing!

@Barry+Mc+Kelvey theoretically they can get their line upgraded as there must be two physical connections to the property your full fibre connection and the copper line their FTTC service uses. That is an unusual set up and potentially could cause confusion if they switched to a different supplier than the one providing the FTTC connection but tge Sky switch should work.

Openreach could simply change the ONT you currently are using to one with multiple outlets one of which would supply the EE service and another providing the Sky service with no direct impact on each other. Alternatively they may install a complete new fibre line. It is highly unlikely you would be offered a choice as the way full fibre works all of the data addressed to the potential 30 users of a distribution point goes to every connnected ONT which simply passes through the data addresssed to you and ignores the rest.

Interesting to hear what actuals happens if they upgrade.

Re: Sky Broadband Second Connection

@Barry+Mc+Kelvey With your pictures cleared two things, do not understand why sky is only offering you a sky Max upgrade only from there Fibre link but that may just be the case because off the dual you have currently, and BTW confirms there is FF there and the ONT Exist's which will be your EE 1.6Gb/s max speed connection, if this was me i just would be very very carefull with it all, not sure how OR/Sky would handle this one as per @Chrisee said, they may wish to leave the ONE FF connection and change out the ONT to a multipoint one with the two services delivered over the fibre EE and Sky, then Ethernet port connect Lan 1 / 2 to the EE Router and the Sky Hub!

? have you always had dual lines into the Home, and EE took the connection on one off those and supplied YOU on the 1.6Gb/s package?

@Barry+Mc+Kelvey & @JimM1 the offer in the screen shot is for Sky WiFi Max which is an add-on to an existing connection not a.broadband service itself. To inquirecabout a switch for your parents they need to call Sky as I suspect yhe online system is unlikely to cope due tomthe unusual, set up..

Openreach will accept an order for a second line up to 1Gb/s and indicate they will use a replacement ONT with multiple outputs if one is placed

Re: Sky Broadband Second Connection

@Chrisee Did send him earlier in the post the sky Fibre checker link which he said was not running, had no issues using it and could see ALL the Fibre packages available to me but would also not be surprised at strange result's was hoping it would just pop up here you go that's what you get!

Hi @JimM1

Yes, I've had two lines into the home for as long as I can remember. It's that long ago now, I can't remember why I got my own separate line lol.

Thanks

Hi @Chrisee

I've just checked my parents Sky broadband account. I thought they were in contract until April 2026. They are in contract until April 2027. I guess there's no point in speaking to Sky, as they probably wouldn't upgraded their broadband until closer to April 2027.

Thanks

Re: Sky Broadband Second Connection

@Barry+Mc+Kelvey NO NO get it done now, sky want to get them onto Fibre as quick as they can, OR are pushing that fact as hard as they can.... Sky are doing it all just now as a FREE upgrade no cost so if there is nothing holding it back then way best to get it done NOW!

You've not had the EE 1.6Gb/s service for more than 2 years now, that's about the time they started pushing it out!

@Barry+Mc+Kelvey Sky allow upgrades while under contract paticularly switches to fibre as it reduces their costs.

Re: Sky Broadband Second Connection

Hi @JimM1

Thanks 🙂 Any idea how much it would cost to upgrade? My parents currently pay £35 p/m for 80 mbps, but only get around 37mbps over WiFi.

Thanks
