Hi @Chrisee

Thanks 🙂 I'll speak to Sky next week 🙂 Hopefully CS will upgrade their line to FTTP, and there will be no issues.

Thanks

Re: Sky Broadband Second Connection

Hi

ive just spent 2.5 hours with Sky via chat. Long story short, they can't upgrade the FTTC line to FTTP, as Sky Full Fibre isn't available in my area. This is despite me getting numerous emails from Sky stating that FTTP was now available in my area.

@Barry+Mc+Kelvey Your BTW showed Priority Exchange FFTP exist's already with an active ONT, this is going to be OR blocking the request since you have a connection already but using it on the EE 1.6Gb/s, When YOU got it installed do you rememnber what was involved, underground connection, new duct etc as i see from the lines ALL under your table, this may just stop everything dead for you, WHY are you doing chat and NOT just calling them direct!

Hi

Years ago with various ISP's then BT, I spent 7 years getting my internet connection issues resolved. It was deemed that there was an issue with the underground cable at the front of my house. The street was dug up etc, new cabling, piping etc was installed to the front of my property.

When I originally had FTTP installed, I was with BT. There was no digging etc to be done, all the underground work was done.

They installed some sort of grey square box outside my property, this is when BT's cabling was connected to. From that box came the fibre optic cable, to the ONT inside my property.

It was during the COVID era I had BT FTTP installed, 900 Mbps. Then I'd switch to EE 900 Mbps, as it was cheaper. In the last six months of that contract, I'd upgraded to EE 1.6 Gbps.

Im not at home, I'd usually phone Sky via 150 from the landline. That's why I'd used chat today.

Thanks

Barry

Hi

i spoke with Sky CS today via the phone. Got transferred to the Broadband Tech Team. Long story short, Sky can't install a second ONT despite what BTW say.

Thanks

Re: Sky Broadband Second Connection

@Barry+Mc+Kelvey Now that may be more off the stumbling block than anything else, trouble is one address one line is the norm getting two 2nd one get's charged, so it's going to be the same for the Fibre, your first one you got, now the block is up, 2nd one is ok what is the cost to get that line changed over, sky will not want to deal at all with it even if you said ok it's £200 i'll pay that upfront now so to speak, you may just have to get another ISP to look at it, trouble is now you have 18months off contract still to go caught between the rock and the hard place!

Hi

I guess I've got two options when the Sky Broadband contract ends, either cancel the Sky Broadband and save on the monthly payments, or look into another ISP. Possibly BT, or Virgin Media. Although I've not heard good things about Virgin Media.

Thanks

Re: Sky Broadband Second Connection

@Barry+Mc+Kelvey For me i would do the cancel and spread your EE 1.6Gb/s package about to cover it all, you wont even miss the slight drop to cover the fttc currently! Phone loss may be your only stumbling block, so you may wish to look into porting it over to a voip service later, keep the folks happy!

Hi

Ah damn, I'd forgot about the landline side of things 😞

What would VOIP entail?

Thanks

Re: Sky Broadband Second Connection

@Barry+Mc+Kelvey Look at something like vonage do a search, small box plugs into your EE Router which ever version you have by Ethernet connection, and you give vonage your current sky number when it is all up and done, minimal charge but you can also do call plans etc with them, just like a sky landline phone really, few good voip companies out there, you can also if you wish set it all up but get the previso with them that you are later going to port over the number that they set you up with! Get's the folks used to dealing with it before hand.....

Just search voip and you will get a few that pop up, and start reading!👍 That's why the Forum is here, you can bounce anything off and get the feedback!

Hi

I actually use a third party mesh setup. A Netgear RBE 771 Mesh System. I myself, haven't used the landline in years. I'm not sure how much my parents use the landline.

Thanks

Re: Sky Broadband Second Connection

@Barry+Mc+Kelvey It all perspective, my son has the 2Gb/s VM Full Fibre XGSPON, two years past Sept now so just renewed, did the beat me up going to move so got it at the same price nearly to keep him, never once has it faltered on him, had an oops with the PS5 but set that to google DNS cleared that one up, got his old dad to keep him right and on the straight and narrow, using the 10Gb/s high speed so everything inside is all running tickety boo... Think that CS is there main issue, if you never have to call them you are never going to have a problem, that's why he has me, but would stay away from BT at the end off the sky, you have to watch and guard your EE line can see it going pear shaped, just really surprised that sky don't want to play ball, even running another fibre in and sticking up a second ONT for you!

They may come round nearer the end off the contract, especially when you go to leave them....

Good thing about having the two lines, and the two seperate BB connections you may just never be stuck, know what i mean!

Hi

Yes, VM's CS isn't great. My partner used to have VM Broadband and lots of issues, CS was a nightmare to deal with. That was well over 10 years ago though.

When BT eventually dug up the street to fix my copper issue, I've never had a problem with BT. Never had a problem with their FTTP. The only reason I switched from BT to EE, they offered the same FTTP cheaper. What I liked about BT, the same as EE, CS is based in the UK 🙂

Thanks

Re: Sky Broadband Second Connection

@Barry+Mc+Kelvey Did the EE one lasted only 11 months off the 24 then back to sky Mar 2025, they stuffed the FW up on the EE Smarthub+ big time end of Feb, killed a fully working network stone dead overnight, took me 2 day's to stabalise it all again, but it was the straw that broke the camels back, lived with and worked around all the little oops they had but just threw the towel in had enough and off back to sky! Been doing this far to long to have an issue, network is important to me, home side don't care much about the Internet side and the FF500 keeps the good lady happy in her retirement with NO issues that's the whole need!

Well, yes: EE will have part of BT Group for a decade in about two weeks time ; )

The price incentive to migrate is because they are* aiming to use the BT brand for business users and EE for domestic services.
