Scam numbers

Hi,

had a call today asking if want to upgrade to Fibre with no extra cost or disruption to my current deal, seems fishy? Is this number a legit Sky agent: 0333 [content removed]?

can anyone confirm?

@Ian329

Any number can be spoofed so hopefully you didn't provide any account or personal information.

Checking that number on the 'Who Called Me' website indicates it's connected with broadband scams.

@JB881811 Sky are contacting people to encourage them to upgrade to full fibre and Sky uses 0333 numbers but it is impossible to be certain. However Sky should never ask for financial details as they have them already.

Re: Scam numbers

I had a call from this number too, seemed very genuine and knew all my account info, even how long I had been a sky customer. I said I would call back and ask for the department he said he was calling from and he got very defensive and stroppy.

Re: Scam numbers

@Jo+Wilson That does sound like a scam then if they take that attitude, next time get a name off the person calling, but you did well.

Probably because even for a genuine interaction there's no way to route an inbound call back to a Sky department which is doing outbound marketing (and also they have targets to meet)

Re: Scam numbers

As the number has been removed from the top post how do we know if we are being called by the same number

and if its verified as a sky caller - as calling 'out of the blue' puts the warning flags up and I'm tempted to block it if I find no definite confirmation

@HC65

Any number can be spoofed so there's no harm in calling Sky using the approved number if you're not happy it's genuine.

We've had same to my 77 year old parents.  Definitely a scam Thankfully he couldn't remember his password.

@Lawman3

With any unexpected calls from Sky if the caller asks for your telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which a genuine Sky agent should) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it'll likely  be a scam call.
